Ondanks zijn liefde voor Brabant, startte hij in 1980 samen met zijn studievriend Ruud Waanders een praktijk in Lichtenvoorde.
Hij specialiseerde zich midden jaren tachtig tot tandarts-implantoloog, werd in 1990 tandarts-gnatholoog, via de opleiding van McGann tandarts voor orthodontie en daarnaast ook na een 3 jarige opleiding in Wenen, laser-deskundige. Leon is mede eigenaar van een praktijk met 4 vestigingen met in totaal 25 kamers en 65 personeelsleden.
