18. September 2008 – Eröffnung des Forums
Die Eröffnung des Einkaufszentrums in der Duisburger Innenstadt, die sollte man sich nicht entgehen lassen. Es ist für Städtebau und Entwicklung von Duisburg sicher ein historisches Datum der Stadtgeschichte. Die Neugier steigt und wir freuen uns schon auf das neue Karstadt und Saturn, auf viele feine Fachgeschäfte und die Belebung der Duisburger City. Das Forum ist ein Meisterwerk der Architektur. Anerkennung für die Leistung der Ingenieure und ein großes Lob an die Bauarbeiter und Handwerker, die das alles geschaffen und pünktlich fertig bekommen haben – vielen Dank dafür.

Sommerfest der Duisburger Tafel
Mit Respekt vor den Einzelschicksalen der Betroffenen und Anerkennung für das ehrenamtliche Tun der Mitarbeiter der Duisburger Tafel besuchte die grüne Bürgermeisterin, Doris Janicki, das Sommerfest der Duisburger Tafel. Vor über 13 Jahren wurde die Tafel in Duisburg gegründet als Obdachlosenhilfe. Bis heute hat sie sich entwickelt zu einer unverzichtbaren Einrichtung für Obdachlose und Hartz IV-Empfänger. Die Duisburger Tafel, das ist der Mittagstisch für Bedürftige, der Tafelladen in Hochfeld mit der Lebensmittelausgabe und das ist die Obdachlosenzeitung fiftyfifty, das ist Hilfe und Unterstützung zur Selbsthilfe. Selbsthilfe ist aktiver Umgang mit der eigenen Krankheit, das „Aktive“ hat heilende Wirkung. Menschen aus Selbsthilfegruppen sind „Experten in ihrem Krankheitsbild“, Experten aus der persönlichen Betroffenheit heraus. Sie sind engagiert und gut informiert, sie sind sensibel und einfühlsam, weil sie wissen wovon sie reden, sie sind der „mündige Patient“, den sich aufgeschlossen Mediziner wünschen. Die Selbsthilfegruppen erfüllen ehrenamtlich wichtige gesellschaftliche Aufgaben, die das Gesundheitssystem nicht leisten kann. Das Euro Rock Seminar ist eine intensive Zusammenarbeit mit den Duisburger Partnerstädten und dessen jungen europäischen Rockbands. Das knapp einwöchige Programm vom 03. bis 09. August beinhaltet öffentliche Auftritte, ein Intensivseminar, Begegnung und Austausch und Kennen lernen der Gastgeberstadt. Bürgermeisterin Doris Janicki begrüßt diese Förderung direkter Kontakte junger Menschen in Europa.
