Mindful Poetic Stories Podcast
Compliments
This episode is powerful and heartfelt, and is all about moving from self-sabotage to self-welcoming with self-care, reclaiming body love and inner wisdom. Today Patricia dives into the inner critic that lives in all of us, the voice that tells us we’re not good enough. But what if it’s not only the world that’s to blame? What if it’s the stories we tell ourselves? Patricia shares a deeply personal journey of body shame, low self-worth, and the lifelong impact of unrealistic beauty standards. From the harsh truths about the media's influence to the importan...

It is the beginning of an unshakeable bond between Elizabeth and Aisling O'Connor, a friendship which will endure through twenty turbulent years of change and chaos, joy and sorrow, soaring dreams and searing betrayals. 007: Circle of Friends (1990) versus Normal People (2018)
In this episode I compare the college romances of the dreamy Circle of Friends, by Maeve Binchy, and the nihilistic nightmare Normal People, by Sally Rooney. What proves to be most galling is not, as I thought, that Rooney is heaped with laurels for ripping off romance tropes wholesale, but that Normal People is actually a lot better than I remembered. Beautiful World Where Are You is genuinely great! And there goes my formula. Still, nothing can replace Circle of Friends in my heart, and I maintain that Binchy is Ireland’s most overlooked genius.

She is in and of and for our whole natural world. So, is it poetry sustaining her now? Or does she (she does!) have other sources of inspiration? The cast of characters in and out of Ria’s life, and all their idiosyncrasies, make this a full-bodied novel. The way Binchy is able to write, simply, about complex human emotion is quite admirable.Click here to play
