Ep. 13 Pitfalls of Organizational Leadership
In this episode Drs. Kutz and Konin "POKE THE BEAR." For example, volunteerism is not leadership. Despite that fact, many organizations reserve leadership positions and titles for those who have a history or penchant for volunteering. This tendency reduces the likelihood that other (maybe even qualified) leaders get involved or have opportunity to get involved. Furthermore, volunteer-based leadership recruitment initiatives hinder cognitive diversity needed among teams… and a few other interesting ideas. Drs. Ep. 9 Proximity Bias!
Proximity Bias is real thing that is manifesting more as the workplace becomes increasingly virtual and remote. SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) has identified proximity bias as real problem with upwards of 40% of executives citing the inequities between remote and in-office employees as a growing concern. In fact, "bosses" may be twice as likely to prefer or favor in-office employees... perhaps leading to some workplace inequity. We are not experts on this, but that isn't stopping us from having an opinion on it.
