In the Lykins neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri, residents have taken control of their housing since 2018. Theyve seized and rehabbed abandoned homes, started a mixed-income trust for rentals, and built new houses with Habitat for Humanity. Their focus is on improving livability while preserving the areas blue-collar roots. Theyve restored about 100 homes, increased home values, and launched programs to prevent flipping and keep rents affordable. Around Lykins Square Park, Habitat homes are rising, making the neighborhood safer and more vibrant.
