Ardie Savea backing under-fire Moana Pasifika
All Black Ardie Savea is backing his under-fire Super Rugby Pacific side. Savea captained Moana Pasifika to their most successful season on record this year, but the franchise's funding model is now under scrutiny. Moana Pasifika became part of the Pasifika Medical Association Group a year ago and Te Puni Kokiri has launched an independent review into allegations of use of public funding by the group for the professional rugby side. The Pasifika Medical Association is rejecting claims that public funds have been used in an inappropriate manner. Sports reporter Felicity Reid spoke to Lisa Owen.

Pita Alatini: On the future of Moana Pasifika in Super Rugby
A breakdown at the Moana Pasifika Super Rugby franchise as questions mount over disclosure and transparency at ownership level. The Herald reports the team received around eight million dollars in government help across the first three seasons. Concern now centres on the charity Pasifika Medical Association Group which bought the franchise last year, and a reduction in their Whanau Ora contracts. Those have previously been used to bolster Moana Pasifika's finances, a strategy reported as contentious among health service providers to the Polynesian community. Perspective with Heather du Plessis-Allan: Should Moana Pasifika be saved?
There’s a strong chance that this has been Moana Pasifika's best and last season in super rugby. Do you want them to have another one? And if so, how much should the taxpayer put in to save it? Would you pay $7million? Because that’s apparently what they’re short. The Whānau Ora money is gone and it's understood that Sky is pulling its sponsorship of half a million dollars a year. World rugby also wants to either reduce or completely cut the money it puts in. That’s aroun...

Tama Potaka: Māori Development Minister on if Whānau Ora funding was used for Moana Pasifika
Concerns are being raised around the use of taxpayer money to fund Moana Pasifika. Our newsroom's revealed the Super Rugby franchise received some $8 million in taxpayer loans, grants, and funding. The Pasifika Medical Association —which took over ownership of the team last year— has received funding from Whānau Ora contracts. Māori Development Minister Tama Potaka told Mike Hosking there's some uncertainty about how that Whānau Ora money was spent. He wants to know it's being used for proper purpose and has asked for an explanation ASAP. LISTEN ABOVE...

Perspective with Heather du Plessis-Allan: The Moana Pasifika revelation could do huge damage
How disappointing is the revelation that Whānau Ora money has been used to fund the Moana Pasifika rugby team? How disappointing is that? And this is not a criticism of the team. I mean, the team has been one of the rockstar stories of the Super Rugby season. This is about the funding. This is the kind of revelation, I reckon, that does huge damage to public confidence and Government use of taxpayer money. Because this is money that, to our minds, is supposed to be going to some of the...

Jason Pine: Weekend Sport Host on Moana Pasifika's financial struggles
Moana Pasifika's future looks uncertain despite their fourth and most successful Super Rugby campaign. The Herald reports concerns centre around the charity Pasifika Medical Association Group which bought the franchise last year and a reduction in their Whanau Ora contracts. Those have previously been used to bolster Moana Pasifika's finances, a strategy reported as quietly contentious among Polynesian health service providers. Earlier this month, 15 players were released from this year’s squad. Newstalk ZB’s Jason Pine told Ryan Bridge that sponsorships are never easy to come by. He says ther...
