Stories of the World: World Earth Day
Youth of the World on the march. I've been reading There is no Planet B by Mike Berners-Lee and I'll tell you how it compares with The Uninhabitable Earth which I reviewed earlier. I’ve been in touch with Jem Bendell. He's totally overwhelmed by responses to his paper but I hope to be able to interview one of his colleagues later in May. This week I've discovered a lot of information about denial. Why do people deny things and what can we do about it? And there's other news: about air pollution, Coca-Cola bottles, gas heating an...

Why Climate Change Is Not Just an Environmental Issue
Some have decried the Green New Deal because it touches on numerous areas outside of climate change, including universal health care, a universal basic income, job guarantees and worker rights. We cannot even begin to address climate change without also looking at food, biodiversity, income inequality, population, plas...

LF44 Mike Berners-Lee – The Burning Question
Mike Berners-Lee discusses The Burning Question, a book co-authored with Duncan Clark. Climate change is the most fascinating scientific, political and social puzzle of our time. Great minds, enthusiastic leaders and green warriors have all tried to tackle the problem, but so far the world’s efforts at reducing global warming have failed. We do our best to save energy and technologies have made burning fuels more efficient, but the simple fact is carbon emissions are still accelerating upwards, following an exponential curve that goes back centuries. Like squeezing a balloon, reductions in one place lea...
