Policy uncertainty is still out there
The NWU Business School's Policy Uncertainty Index was announced yesterday and it rose in the second quarter of the year.
Baie dankie.

The election and economic policy
With less than a week left before the general election, analysts and the markets seem to be very calm about the outcome. Episode 10: The fourth investment conference
Yesterday saw South Africa’s fourth international investment conference. Another R332 billion was pledged in planned projects and investment finance. On paper, it seems like a win for the President, but commentators have raised a number of questions. So I thought it is sensible to ask Prof Raymond Parsons, of the NWU Business School, to update us on the state of affairs. He was kind enough to share some of his views per voice note.

After a short break loadshedding was back last week, reminding all of us of the vulnerability of our electricity supply and the challenge of overhauling Eskom. So I thought it is sensible to ask an expert to update us on the state of affairs. Corneels Schabort, also of the NWU, was kind enough to share some of his views per voice note. Episode 7: The devil is in the tax details
Last week the Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana delivered the Budget Speech. There was a lot of comment and I think that most analysts thought that the Minister struck the right balance between a little extra spending, a little tax relief, and managing the budget deficit and debt burden. There are risks, but at least there is nothing we did not already know about. From a tax perspective, a lot less was said in the budget speech and in the analysis afterwards. So Prof Krugell called a tax expert to get some insight into the issues. I...
