And the Oscar goes to...
Lion
This episode is late for the completely unavoidable reason that I didn't know what the date was. This is no-one's fault, except probably Joel's. Please listen to this episode about the movie Lion, in which we do our best to make up for the travesty that was our last episode. This one isn't (as) boring. Thanks to White & Black for our theme music

S02E01 Hacksaw Ridge
And we're back After absolutely no break in scheduling whatsoever, we're starting a new series. This second miniseries is looking at the nominees from 2017 (so films released in 2016 - why don't they just do the Oscars in December to stop this confusing mess?) and first on the docket is Hacksaw Ridge, Mel Gibson's return to direction after a 10-year hiatus. Join us as we chat about whether the film is any good (it's not), whether Mel Gibson is the worst (he is) and whether it's cause for celebration that he's back in our homes (it's not).

Season 1 Wrap-up
We've talked about all the films from the 1995 best picture category and yet we're still doing another episode this season and it absolutely was not a self-indulgent mistake, thank you very much. If you don't want to listen to this (good instincts) the next season we'll be focusing on the 2017 Oscars slate, celebrating films released in 2016. The first film we'll be looking at is Mel Gibson's Desmond Doss biopic, Hacksaw Ridge. Thank you to White & Black for our theme music: https://audiojungle.net/user/white-black

S01E05 Forrest Gump
And the Oscar goes to... Forrest Gump! In 1995 the Academy Award for Best Picture was awarded to Robert Zemeckis's Forrest Gump for some reason. Let's talk about the film and all the ways it's not good. Oh, and Joel says some stuff about how maybe it's not actually terrible but I think he was probably joking. S01E03 Quiz Show
Today we're looking at Quiz Show, the least well-remembered film from an Oscars slate with some 90s heavy hitters. Does it deserve to be forgotten though? Just how handsome is Ralph Fiennes? And is this the worst Boston accent ever depicted on screen? Quiz Show is a 1994 American historical film produced and directed by Robert Redford, and written by Paul Attanasio, based on Richard N. Goodwin's memoir Remembering America: A Voice From the Sixties. The film chronicles the Twenty-One quiz show scandals of the 1950s, the rise and fall of popular contestant Charles Van Doren after the...

S01E02 Four Weddings and a Funeral
S1 E2 Four Weddings and a Funeral Continuing our look at the best picture nominees from 1995, we turn now to the film that made Hugh Grant a star: Four Weddings and a Funeral. Rain talk is had. Four Weddings and a Funeral is a 1994 British romantic comedy film directed by Mike Newell. It was the first of several films by screenwriter Richard Curtis to feature Hugh Grant, and follows the adventures of Charles (Grant) and his circle of friends through a number of social occasions as they each encounter romance. Ep 33 – Ancient Papyri and Joe Tappin' Dat Fanny
On this episode, we jump back into the historical timeline! We start off with the wiles of a Michael H. Chandler, and how he made $2400 off Joe's fascination with ancient artifacts, then, the 1835 Doctrine and Covenants are voted in as scripture by every member of the church. After that, Big Daddy Cheese is given a living stipend and fees for giving patriarchal blessings, and we talk about another first vision account, only this one is taken from Joe's own diary. To finish out the episode, we read a couple of autobiographical accounts covering the end of 1835, and leading into 1836...
