1995's The American President
"You podcast the podcasts that need podcasting" - Phil celebrates the career of Rob Reiner as he takes 1995's The American President Off the Shelf this week. Dave claims this could be Phil's best movie to date and was emotionally moved from the writing and performances. Phil watched it prior to the horrendous news of Reiner's death and once after and it only appreciated in emotional value. A great script, great performances and great direction made it a nice safe space to be despite the news of the world. An added bonus is how much it reflects The West...

2003's Love, Actually
"Podcast is all around us, it's everywhere we go" - It's the ultimate romantic comedy as Phil takes 2003's "Love, Actually" off the shelf. Dave has only seen clips over the years and was under the impression this was romantic, comedy and a Christmas classic, he is very underwhelmed and questions if it manages to be any of those three. Phil enjoys it a little more than Dave and finds that some of the storylines are beautiful, funny and sweet though he too has to admit that a few storylines should be excised and remembers loving it when it...

2012's Looper
"All this podcast crap, just fries your brain like an egg..." - We travel through time as Dave takes 2012's Looper off the shelf. Phil struggles to get beyond JGL's look and Bruce Willis' face but in the end find the movie to be better than he expected. Rian Johnson creates another layered and sometimes perplexing plotted film that is made more interesting by the supporting cast. Dave remembers that this was a movie that he tried to watch a number of times over the years but never got more than a few minutes in. He is glad to...

2008's Passchendaele
"There is only one rule: Don't Podcast" - This week, Dave is breaking the one rule as he takes 2008's Passchendaele off the shelf. Adding a Canadian story to the mix this November as we continue to honour those fallen soldiers, even though Dave doesn't really feel the movie connects and doesn't quite compete with other movies of the genre. On the other hand, Phil found himself enjoying the movie and performances generally while acknowledging that some of the dialogue is a little weak. A rare instance of Phil enjoying a Dave pick, even more than Dave does.

1993's Jurassic Park
"Welcome to Jurassic Podcast" - It's time to get prehistoric as Dave takes 1993's Jurassic Park off the shelf this week. Phil remembers the time he went to see the movie in theatres only to find out it was sold out. Lamentably, he only experienced it on VHS later and has since upgraded to 4K. Dave remembers that he wasn't able to see it later until later. A rare movie where both Phil and Dave enjoy almost every aspect of the filmmaking, performance and score. There are few films better than this.

2013's A Good Day to Die Hard
"Me and my boy here, we're gonna put a podcastin' on ya!" - It's back to the well for Bruce Willis and Dave as he takes 2013's A Good Day to Die Hard off the shelf this week and subjects Phil to another movie that he had never seen. Judging by the quote above, this movie has nothing memorable or interesting to bring to the table as Phil found it to be bland and uninteresting. He further finds that Bruce has none of the self-awareness that Stallone infused Rocky 5 with. Dave, however, still enjoys some of the cut of B...

2008's Quantum of Solace
"I don't think the dead care about podcasting" - It's the second Bond movie that Phil has ever seen as Dave takes 2008's Quantum of Solace off the shelf this week. Phil expresses his disappointment in the film as it fails to capitalize on the strength of the previous entry. Some weak performances, drab colours and poor villain is a real let-down. Dave feels there's a good movie in there but fails due to poor editing. Neither of them could piece together the plot.

The Name is Pod - Pod Cast.....Dave finally brings down 2006's Casino Royale off the shelf this week and continues to enjoy the action adventure story. He confirms that Daniel Craig may be his favorite Bond in the franchise, right after admitting he's only seen one other. Phil has never seen a Bond movie before but is impressed with how many things he knows of the series of films just from the ubiquity of the character. 1991's Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
There are no perfect podcasts in the world; only perfect intentions - Dave takes 1991's Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves off the shelf this week and remembers that this was a common movie to watch in his household growing up. Phil enjoys thinking about the original toys that came out around the time of release and both agree that the soundtrack may be the highlight of the whole movie. Dave enjoys the humor and finds the action to be good when it gets going but Phil found this watch to be a little less exciting than he remembered it.

"Always be Podcasting" - It's an action movie of words as Phil takes 1992's Glengarry Glen Ross off the shelf this week. Dave remembers watching this movie at the old apartment and remembering some of the highlights. Phil recounts his time discovering the movie and being transfixed by the performances, the words, the lighting. David Mamet's writing is incredibly memorable and these are some of the best actors doing some of their best work. Dave can't help but feel that Jack Lemmon's performance is the most deserving of an Oscar despite it being Pacino that was nominated.

Phil bemoans the criticism it has received in the past and hopes to shed some light on this forgotten film. He enjoys the cast and finds the story to be a good reminder of the power of belief. Dave relishes the chance to watch one of Bruce's movies he has seen the least though remembers fondly. He find the fact that this is M. Phil is so captivated by the performance of Esai Morales as Bob that it threatens to take the attention away from Lou Diamond Phillips. Frustrated that it's the series finale and looks like a TV show is a challenge to get over as he watches it. He shares a wonderful memory of choosing to stay over an hour after work to finish the movie. Dave can't help himself but laugh as Phil bares his heart to Christopher Lloyd's performance. Dave remembers seeing this movie a number of times over the last 20 years and always enjoyed the performances and the twisting plot. While the payoff may have softened over the years, Dave still finds it isn't cheap and unearned. Phil ignored this movie when it came out and hasn't thought of it since, until now. Podcasting isn't believing, believing is podcasting as Dave takes 1994's The Santa Clause off the shelf. He finds little to enjoy in this holiday movie that has somehow managed to get 30 years of content out of it. 3 movies and a Disney+ series. Despite Dave's appreciation of Tim Allen, even he can't melt Dave's cold Christmas heart. However, Phil didn't enjoy much of this movie either as he felt that that North Pole wasn't cute or interesting and the portrayal of stressed out elves didn't do much to settle in to a warm Christmas classic.
