Race and IQ | Nathan Cofnas
Nathan Cofnas argues that distinct populations have developed specific cognitive abilities due to varying environmental challenges. The conversation explores the definition and validity of racial categorization from a biological perspective, addressing whether certain physical and cognitive differences among races have a genetic basis. Nathan argues that acknowledging these differences does not necessitate negative social implications but rather an honest recognition of human biodiversity. The dialogue delves into the controversy surrounding race realism in academia, including censorship, accusations of racism, and the consequences of denying or accepting biological differences among races. We're back with episode 16 (for real this time) - and a lot has happened since our Lost Episode recording. First, we cover the two major geological and cosmic events that, experienced in a two week period, would've been enough to convince our ancestors the world was in The End Days: the "west of Manhattan" earthquake and the solar eclipse. We also manage our chronic pain with Joker 2 memes, most of which just involve inserting Lady Gaga's Nurtec ODT ad into every frame from the new trailer. Back on track (literally and figuratively), we break down some of the Hot...

The Reason Behind Your Addiction with Dr. Daniel Lieberman
How does dopamine shape your desires—both positively and negatively? Dopamine is one of many neurotransmitters produced in your brain and is most commonly associated with pleasure. But there’s actually more to it than that. It’s the basis of motivation, incentivizing you to do things because you want something. And while that can lead to success and discoveries, it can also result in addictions of all shapes and sizes. I’m excited to talk to our guest today, Dr. Daniel Lieberman, MD. Dr. Lieberman is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Georg...

Synthesizing a range of textual artifacts with accounts (both real and imagined) of foods harvested, dishes prepared, and meals consumed, this talk—based on An Archive of Taste: Race and Eating in the Early United States (University of Minnesota Press, 2020)—will reveal how a focus on eating allows us to rethink the nature and significance of aesthet...

Lecture | David C. Wilson | The Continuing Significance of Race in American Politics: Racial Resentment and the Pain of Progress
Why does race serve as the most polarizing feature of American politics? Presumably, Americans have a stake in proclaiming America’s greatness, particularly touting pride in democratic governance, protecting civil rights and liberties, and making progress in areas that serve as ugly scars in its history. Yet research suggests the effects of racial bias now surpass the typical partisan and ideological predispositions that drive political decision making and judgments. This phenomenon is highlighted by public opinion data collected over the past 10 years covering Barack Obama’s presidential candidacy and subsequent administrations. As the prototypically racially neutral African American politician, Bara...
