Rosnes also has a new solo release, Crossing Paths — her first full-length album of Brazilian music, a longtime source of inspiration. (She enlisted two certified legends, Edu Lobo and Joyce Moreno, for the project.) In this conversation, Rosnes opens up about all of the abov...

WUCF's March artist for 'In the Key of Latin Jazz' is Renee Rosnes. Pianist and composer from Canada who has had an astonishing four decade career. With a resume that includes Wayne Shorter band, Ron Carter Foursight Quartet, Blue Note Records' Out of the Blue and Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra...she's a force to be reckoned with. Her ability to hear every single note is what Bill Charlap calls 'perfect hearing'. Her newest record "Crossing Paths" proves how extraordinary she can be not only as a composer but as an arranger.

Renee Rosnes • Crossing Paths © 2024 Smoke Sessions Records #latinjazz #vocaljazz
Nick Finzer • Legacy © 2024 Outside in Music #bop

©️ 2023 Blue Note Renee Rosnes - piano & Fender Rhodes Allison Miller - drums Ingrid Jensen - trumpet Noriko Ueda - bass Nicole Grover - tenor sax Alexa Tarantino - alto & soprano sax, flute Recorded At Sear Sound © 2023 UMG Recordings, Inc. Episode 184: Amazing Women in Jazz
I played some records by some great female instrumental jazz artists last week….and this week I have some more (plus a vocalist or two). I remember only a few years ago when people so often spoke about the dearth of women in the jazz world. And just within five years there numbers have blossomed. Just look at the critics and jazz fans polls in the various jazz magazines. One highlight of this week’s episode is a Vancouver based singer who was recently honoured by Canada Post by having her picture on a new stam...

Episode 157: Bellwethers in Jazz, Part 2
Last week I spoke about how Miles Davis could be considered to be the most predominant jazz ‘bellwether’. This was related to his role in contributing to particular tunes becoming ‘standards’, even influencing how other musicians played them. This week I advance that ‘thesis’ even further. I show how changes he made to a Dave Brubeck composition then became the way future musicians played the tune. I also talk about his contribution to what has been called ‘third stream music’, as well as the role that trombonist JJ Johnson played. There are other nominees for bellwether too...

Over her 30-year career, Rosnes has collaborated with a diverse range of artists, from established masters such as Jack DeJohnette to younger giants such as Christian McBride and Melissa Aldana. On this 1990 episode of Piano Jazz, she plays Monk's "Four in One" then improvises with McPartland on her own tune "Fleur De Lis."

CiTR -- The Jazz Show
Pianist Renee Rosnes: "Deep Cove"
This is a wonderful album by piano great Renee Rosnes who was born in Saskatchewan and raised in North Vancouver. Renee by the time this was recorded in 2003 in Vancouver had "made it" in New York. She had gone there earlier and by the time she returned to Vancouver to record this beautiful date she had played with trumpeter John Faddis, saxophonists Wayne Shorter and Joe Henderson and bassist Buster Williams and many others and had recorded a series of albums on Blue Note! This date was a reunion of sorts. Alto and soprano saxophonist Campbell Ryga was always one...

JazzTimes Spins & Riffs
#51: Renee Rosnes, Kenny Barron & Jazz Clubs of the Past
Jazz writer Bob Blumenthal joins Lee to spin cuts from albums by two stellar pianists—Renee Rosnes and Kenny Barron. Inspired by the JazzTimes cover story on Seventh Avenue South, a notorious NYC jazz club owned by the Brecker Brothers in the late 70s and early 80s, Bob and Lee riff on important nightclubs from the history of jazz. This episode is sponsored by Inner Sanctum Audio.
