WAIM Podcast #083 - S.W. Lauden On Losing His Home In The LA Fires
S.W. Lauden was a guest once before back in January of 2024. It was a tremendous chat about the waning power of guitar pop and why it needed to go underground again to gain relevance. We dove deep on subjects like cultural inheritance and the power of pop. Steve Coulter, the real dude behind the S.W. Lauden pen name lost his Altadena, CA home in a matter of hours to the Eaton fire that raged across Los Angeles earlier this year. On the night that Steve, his wife, and their youngest daughter packed the car with a...

E218 - Writer/Drummer S.W. Lauden - Top 5 Geek Rock Songs
We're going back to the days when the geeks inherited the earth...specifically, the bands that were influenced by the monumental commercial and artistic triumph that was Weezer's 1994 self titled album (or, as it's affectionately known, The Blue Album). That's the subject of the new oral history and accompanying 11-track compilation album Generation Blue, out now from Big Stir Records and Spyderpop Records. Compiled and edited by this week's Third Lad, S.W. Lauden, Generation Blue is a fascinating celebration of the '90s Hollywood scene that included bands like Ozma, Nerf Herder, Baby Lemonade, Chopper One, and more.

Santa Barbara Independent July 8, 2021 by S.W. Lauden There’s a parallel universe in which this article is about Popsicko’s triumphant two-night stand at the Santa Barbara Bowl. A world where this high-energy alternative-rock band takes a triumphant victory lap in front of an adoring hometown crowd after nearly three decades at the top of the charts, countless world tours, and piles of platinum records. Given the buzz around Popsicko in the early ’90s, the above scenario seemed entirely possible. “[Popsicko] plays songs stocked with simple chords and catchy refrains that you can shou...

This week's guest, writer/drummer S.W. Lauden, first wrote about NY band Fountains Of Wayne in the book 'Go All The Way: A Literary Appreciation of Power Pop'. During that time, he listened to their third - and breakout - album 'Welcome Interstate Managers' for months on repeat, and eventually formulated a theory that it's actually a sly, sophisticated Gen-X concept album. To be clear, this is solely HIS theory. Nonetheless, it lent itself to a really fun conversation, and the pure-pop mastery of Chris Collingwood and Adam Schlesinger's songs cannot be denied!
