Colonel Bikumalla Santosh Babu who laid down his life fighting to protect the country from Chinese intrusion has been honoured with the Maha Vir Chakra. The award was announced on January 25 on the eve of Republic day 2021. The 38-year-old Col Santosh Babu and 20 Indian soldiers belonging to the 16 Bihar Regiment died in the clashes with the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China on June 15, 2020 in Galwan valley in Ladakh.
