Ditch the ‘Recruit Everyone’ Model: How to Build a Team That Stays w/ Shannon Gillette
“Got a license? You’re in”. That’s the conventional real estate team model: bring on as many agents as possible and hope some turn into producers. But here’s the catch: that model drains team leaders. It’s chaotic, joyless, and built on a revolving door of disappointment. Shannon Gillette does things differently. She got intentional about culture, refused to chase headcount, and built a team where one 1 agent = 40 applicants. And once they’re in, they stay. No churn. No burnout. Chips 'n Tips 11
Driving 1" of chisel into the wood to make a mortise is a bit too much like work. When the mortises get big or in odd locations, boring it out is the better choice. With a center line, it just got faster and easier.

When you get tired your technique suffers and a good cut can go back very quickly leading to a lot more work later one with a hand plane. I have come up with a simple tip to pace myself but also add a little more accuracy over a long rip when my technique can break down due to fatigue. I hope you enjoy this tip.

The process for working in thin stock is not much different but you need to be more delicate and most of the time use fewer tools and take smaller bites. I'm adding permanent handles to all my files and rasps and thought I would do them on the pole lathe. I used brass ferrules I bought at Lee Valley for a few pennies and a piece of Teak that was 1.5" round and 7" long.
