卡列班与女巫✖️BIE别的女孩:“后工作时代”是什么?
感恩《别任性》alex的邀请和逐字稿:) 都市白领和三和大神,都是螺丝钉 (04‘50-18‘40)Alexwood(以下 A):我特意放了 Oasis 这首歌做开场,The Importance of Being Idle,“无所事事的重要性”—— 这句话本身也是句名言,歌词说 “只要星空下面还有一个床,我就能过,不要催我去找工作,反正我心不在那的话,我也不会有生活。”YouTube 上这首歌最高赞的一个评价是说, “Oasis 不是一个乐队,而是一整代人。” 其实我觉得不是一整代人,是好几代人的一个写照。我们现在身边又有这种反工作的情绪的回潮,你有察觉吗?Stephanie(以下 S):我们这一代还有更年轻的这一代人,会感觉到更明显的这种反工作的情绪。他们觉得阶级上升已经很难实现,特别是男性,很难买房子、买车子。你发现这些目标都难以实现的时候,你就想为什么我要工作?就丧失了对工作的兴趣了。A:就很幻灭,像 Oasis 所处的也是差不多是这样的背景。他们长大的时期,整个80年代初撒切尔时期失业率相当高,大概高达10~12%。然后90年代初的时候仍然是保守党执政,曼彻斯特的失业率大概8-10%这样子。曼彻斯特又是一个世界上第一个工业化城市,到了如今后工业化的时期,大家的工作就渐渐消失了。现在美国那些小镇,或者是那种曾经的工业重镇,其实面临的是平行的一样的境遇。S:对,现在中国也差不多是这样子的,因为原本中国是世界工厂,欧美国家的产业转移到中国的时候,中国有大量的这种机会吸纳这些劳动力,但是现在中国自己也想要成为像欧美这样的以技术为核心的这样的国家。之前 NHK 去拍过三和大神的纪录片,他们对于工作和劳动的看法是跟上一辈人完全不一样的,赚一天的钱玩三天,然后没钱了再去赚钱,然后再玩。他们的工作仍然是比较辛苦的机械化的工作,但这种工作也越来越少了,因为现在中国要发展科技,把劳动力都转移到了其他的第三世界国家,东南亚国家。所以现在中国的劳动力结构发生了变化,包括地缘政治的影响,导致年轻人对工作的看法变了。A:而且它是跨阶级的,不光是三合大神这些相对底层的劳动者,包括家庭更富足的一些家庭的孩子,他们对于工作的态度也不再是上一代人的那种 “一分耕耘一分收获” 或者 “勤劳的美德”,已经不再相信这一套东西了。20多岁的城市青年中有种定期辞职的现象,听同事说她的一个女孩朋友是学广播电视的,开始找工作的时候有点胡乱地找,进入互联网行业,之后两年内换了6份工作,规律的辞职,把钱攒到了一定数量就走人,辞职之后就去旅游,或者是学一些新的技能,然后再找下一份工作。感觉她没有那种传统的职业规划,不是在纵向上说每一个工作都是要上升的,她可以试一试这个,然后就换一条跑道,好像是横向的在开发,据说互联网行业除了技术岗位都做遍了,也没有很焦虑。还有一个同事的朋友也是固定辞职,这个男孩是做文案的,每份工作不会超过3个月。比如他会发朋友圈说,“我旁边的人不洗澡太臭了,我明天必须辞职”,然后第2天就辞职了。还有一次他发现同事喜欢咪蒙,他觉得太傻逼了,又辞职了。还有一次他在社交媒体上说,如果点赞超过10个我就辞职,然后在大家的帮助下,他就顺利地辞职了。我不知道他们缺不缺钱,但心态上也是 “日结”(也是所谓 “gig economy”),跟三和大神看似是两个世界 —— 都市白领和底层劳动者,其实都是一种集体拒绝工作,或者拒绝所谓的 bullshit job 的这种状态。S:但是他们要承担的所谓社会责任和家庭责任带来的焦虑感会有多强?刚才我们说的是30岁以下的年轻人,但如果有了家庭,再供一套房子,有一个孩子要养的话,不断地变换工作是风险非常高的,比如说之前996的那些人,被辞职了简直就疯掉了,还有阿里巴巴那一群人,阿里巴巴随便就让他们走人,他们还得一个月内还欠给阿里巴巴的几十万几百万,简直天塌了。A:所以这个时候就发现,整个一套东西都是把你框在里面的,像资本主义下面包括家庭价值观、包括你的工作路径 —— 这两种结构就把你框在里面了。然后这些年轻人也好,还是三和大神也好,他们不担心因为他们可能根本不打算承受这样的责任,不打算进入家庭,就把自己从家庭和就业这两个机器结构里面给拎出来了。S:现在有群年轻人叫废柴青年,就秉持着这种给自己的生活、给家庭生活带来最少麻烦的这种生活,不结婚,也不会生孩子,就这么过着。我是研究 NGO 和公益组织的嘛,其实这里面的从业者,也是那种不可能通过工资实现阶级上升的。很多人也是那种日结的想法,“反正我现在做的事情如果有意义的话,我就做下去“,但是他们一般到了中年的时候,就会比较焦虑这个问题。所以你会发现在公益行业能够留下来的30多岁的,很多是有家庭的女性,她们的伴侣有工作,能够支持她们继续在这个行业。2019年的一个报告说,中国公益行业70%都是女性,然后男性的数量越来越少,因为他们要养家糊口的话,根本没有办法。A:这种逼你作出选择,选择理想还是选择生存这样的一个环境,它就不对。我们有一天忽然意识到靠理想吃不饱饭,就只能心灰意冷的退出了,然后重新进到这个社会的大机器里面,成为一颗螺丝钉。其实这个是社会的一种损失,或者文化的损失。 “工作” 到底是什么?(18‘40-32‘50)A:这种反工作或者是退出大机器的态度,其实一直在重复,五六十年代的时候学者就会说我们不要工作,用这种消极的态度来抵抗资本主义的堕落。S:对,特别是左派,但很多论述是不断在变化的。在性别领域,六七十年代的时候,家务劳动价值化是很大的一个辩论,就是要求给家务劳动付薪水,这也是一种 anti-work,一种反工作的态度,因为其实 work 在我们现在资本主义市场经济里面的定义,仍然是生产性的,有工资收入的,这种才叫做工作。但实际上 “工作” 的定义是要不断地去解构,然后去重构的。所以家务劳动的运动扩展了 “工作” 的范畴,家务这种无偿的劳动付出,其实很重要的 “社会再生产”(social reproduction)的部分。社会再生产就是:能够让工人第二天回到工厂继续工作要做出的这一系列工作,包括回到家要有饭吃,需要有人帮 ta 烫衣服,有个好的床睡觉等等。这些工作是我们没有看到的,市场经济也不会承认的。A:你不是之前提到一个经济学家 Kathi Weeks,她还提到,我们从小受的教育会培养我们日后进入生产力的技能,这些技能被在我们的单位征用了或者使用了,所以我们受的教育就是一种 “再生产劳动力”,但是它本身却不会得到补偿,没有薪水,倒是我们要花钱去培养这些技能。那么刚好该定义一下工作,我们现在说 “工作” 的时候,一般用的定义就是这种拿薪水的工作,waged work,对吧?S:现在做创意行业、创业领域的,其实做的工作很辛苦,但是他们的作品如果一直没有出来的话,他们是永远不会得到这个市场的认可的。他们一直在努力工作,而如果我们只用钱,只看 ta 作品卖是否卖得出去,那他们的工作算什么?公益行业也是,长期就是低薪、低报酬、低保障。安慰公益人的话就是,你有激情,你为社会奉献,用这种话语来平复他们对现在处境的不满,但实际上是越来越多人无法承受这种情怀了,这种很空虚的情怀。“工作” 的定义本身肯定是需要被拓宽的,只不过它背后的这一套机制如果没有改变的话,我们再怎么拓宽这个定义也没有意义,只能是首先让人们看到说,“工作“ 也可以是很多样化的。A:很多人最向往的状态就是做着喜欢的事情,还可以拿钱,但难题就是两个维度都满足很难。S:我有一个疑问,很多人都说,你要是把你的兴趣变成了工作之后并不好,为什么呢?比如说现在我是在做学术,我也感觉到非常不快乐。我喜不喜欢研究?我是喜欢的,但是我是不喜欢这种为了在机制里提升自己,而要做的那一系列的工作,比如说你一年之内要发多少文章。它不是考虑到说你是真正爱这个事业,而是用这一套方式来管理你,使你成为像你刚刚说的一个螺丝钉。在庞大的一个教育体系里面,你只是一个螺丝钉而已,一旦你不喜欢规则了,它就随时能把你换掉。A:我就是因为这样子才想离开学术界的。你会发现它变成了一个 game,而有一些人更善于玩这个游戏,比如把一篇文章拆成三篇来发,我本来想,读博士不就是能离这些人远一点吗?并不是。这太 old school了,这个时代已经完全过去了。S:那你觉得现在的工作,让你的创造力更强了吗?A:(30‘30-32‘40:关于现在这份工作,还有没有所谓上班(on)和下班(off)时间是好是坏) 我们为什么工作?(32‘50-49‘30)A:如果问为什么工作,最直接的答案可能就是 “为了生存“,但是这一层关系是最经不起考验的:以前的贵族是不用工作的,劳动者是被迫为了生存而工作的人,而他们也永远是最穷的人。马克思就会说剩余价值回不到他们自己身上。一个理想的社会是大家都不用为了生存而去工作,就是说我们可以把 “工作/劳动” 和 “收入” 剥离开。S:我们生活在一个社会主义国家都还没实现呢。A:但是有地方实现了,比如你那天发我的那个视频,关于以色列的基布兹。S+A:(34‘15-36‘30:关于一个以色列基布兹社区的介绍)A:我觉得很棒的就是,这个基布兹社区的人们并不会因为按需分配就变得更懒,反倒工作的时候更积极,更有热情,因为大家工作不是为了赚钱,或者比别人过得更好,或者是为了消费,而是为了工作本身。他们的满足感来自工作本身,来自能够满足其他人的信任,满足自己的一些责任。S:对,就听起来特别美好,说到这个,世界很多地方在实验 universal basic income,就是全民基本工资,主要的概念就是向赚钱最多的人收更多的税,然后分配给那些在贫困线以下的人,或者是全民,不同的地方不一样。刚刚说基布兹,人没有更懒,但是在美国有一个州做这个实践的时候,发现的确人更懒了哈哈哈,或者家庭分崩离析。什么样的社会更能够适应这种全民福利的措施呢?什么样的是社会是完全无法适应?美国因为资本主义和个人主义的太根深蒂固了,是不是这样的原因?A:我觉得有这个原因。还有一点,人们太习惯所谓工作在生活中的位置了,或者说被工作定义。那很多人不需要工作之后,即使自己的创造也可以是 “工作”,也可以创造价值,但他们却不知道拿这个时间做什么,不知道如何在被动的工作之外,如何主动使用这些时间,那看起来就是懒了。还要说回这个工作的意义,尤其是美国,还有中国,特别强调勤劳这种美德,或者说是工作的道德感,所谓 work ethic。我觉得跟美国的清教徒文化关系,“你只要勤劳诚实地劳作,你就会有回报”,然后他们的中产阶级也的确是这么来的。然后中国也是,资本主义得不输给任何人好吧?S:中国更神奇的地方是原本是集体主义,这种思想也是让你觉得必须要工作,然后为集体奉献,还多了这种绑架你的感情的这部分。A:你付出了就会回报是资本主义逻辑,而集体主义下或者社会主义下,是 “劳动者最高贵”,“劳动最光荣”。所以我们跟美国互成镜像,是最强调工作道德的两个国家。S:美国和中国虽然意识形态如此的对立,但实际上太像了!包括你刚刚说的这种竞争的意识。A:对。这也是我们难以去想象基布兹这种社区的原因,很多人觉得 “有竞争才能进步,没有竞争社会就会钝化了”。看视频的时候还有一条弹幕,这个视频的主持人说 “在这个地方你一辈子都不用花钱”,然后一条弹幕说,“但是马云希望你们花钱啊”。所以这又是一个陷阱,为什么我们那么难以想象不工作,或者不赚薪水的生活,就是因为消费主义还在这等着你。S:对。为什么我们中国的孩子成长这么的痛苦,然后每个人勾心斗角,因为我们资源稀缺,所以我们必须得踩过对方,我们才能够成功。它是一个非常弱肉强食的适者生存的逻辑,其实社会达尔文主义对我们的创造力是有很大的影响的。那为什么美国也相信竞争呢?这是资本主义要求你的,要求你的独特,要求你比别人厉害,鼓励竞争力。其实美国的社会保障还没中国好,如果你没有工作,你就没有保险;中国最基本的全民医保还是有的。所以你想,在美国这种你没有工作就没有保险的这种逻辑下面,你人能不竞争吗?A:但我觉得现在中国并不是缺少资源,而是它的分布的问题。S:(46‘20-49‘30:关于中国“先富带后富”的发展策略,及其必然产生的不平均) 无法想象的 “后工作时代” (49‘40-60’20)A:我们如果想象一个不工作的世界,其实已经有一个概念,就叫 “后工作时代”,post work。像马克思也说过,工作只是因为喜欢,这样的一个状态。然后现在这一波所谓 post work 运动,比较经典的一个文本就是 Bertrand Russell 写过的 In Praise of Idleness 这篇论文,就是《赞美无所事事》,1932年写的。他说人类发展这些科技也好,还是这些基础性设施,最根本目的是把我们自己从劳动中解放出来,可以不用再劳作,这样的话我们可以去追求真正有意义的,比如说 “快乐” 或者是文化或者是艺术等等。这基本上就是 post work,或者后工作主义的核心思想。现实中也有这种操作,基本的包括工作的时长可以变短,或者你甚至可以赚更少的钱,为了有更多的时间去开发自己。S:我妈要退休了,我爸妈都是在医院里面工作的,她原本是护士长,我爸是医生在急诊科,然后他们一直在医院里面工作,三四十年。我妈是比较传统的一个女性,但她面对退休的时候,有点不知所措。她跟我说到底我退休之后能干什么?虽然上班她也觉得很无聊,因为她已经脱离了临床了,做一些文书的工作,但她仍然不愿意回到家里面。A:所以像 post work 这个概念,你觉得你妈应该是不会接受的?S:我觉得要接受后工作主义的这种想法,首先要自己去反思 “工作” 本身,但是我觉得我妈她不会去做。其实他们的观念里面有一种阶层的,特别在社会主义国家,劳动者最光荣,你在奉献自己,然后你一旦没有工作,别人会在社会层面的意义上把你排除出去,觉得你不再是一个有价值、对这个社会有用的人,包括我觉得很多家庭主妇,她们内化的这种自卑感可能也在于此,她们没有在这种生产体系里面的付出劳动,本身的劳动又没有被认可,那种自卑感是很强的。包括老年人问题也是这样的,老年人觉得自己是一个社会的负担,ta 想早点死,为什么?因为 ta 觉得没有在给社会做贡献了。我觉得其实很悲哀,这个社会没有给我们教过每个阶段的人生意义,或者是不要把工作的意义如此的扩大化、中心化。现在可能年轻人有这样想,但是我觉得对于老年人或者中年人这一代其实挺困难。A:(55‘40-57‘10:为什么疫情期间很多贫苦的老人把毕生积蓄捐出来,一些思绪发散)S:我是很想给我妈妈展现 post work 的生活是怎么样的,但我感觉她还是用自己熟悉的方式,熟悉的工作方式,其实就是想要 kill time,把时间占上。而且我还不像其他同龄女孩一样,能生个孩子给她带哈哈哈。A:对,我觉得她可能是因为没有同伴,因为他们这一代人的价值观也相似,不知道怎么享受生活,现在退休了身边也没有模板。然后上一代人又特别怕出格,特别怕跟别人不一样。所以即使别的老人带孩子很辛苦,他们也觉得反正都这样,没什么问题。 已经到来的 “后工作时代”
