EP 164: Breaking Free from Burnout: Healing Through Nature with Sydney Williams
How do you break the cycle of burnout when everything in life feels overwhelming? In this episode, I sit down with Sydney Williams, founder of Hiking My Feelings, to explore how she went from corporate exhaustion to a purpose-driven career outdoors. After one life-changing backpacking trip, Sydney realized the power of nature in healing both mind and body. She shares how she overcame chronic stress, put her diabetes into remission, and completely redesigned her life around well-being and adventure. Her journey is a powerful reminder that true healing doesn’t always happen in a therapist’s office—it can...

Review of Better Man: Robbie Williams’s Film Preserves Music Biopics
It wasn't a horrible idea to show Robbie Williams as a chimpanzee in the Better Man Flixtor movie, which is an imaginative and poignant biography of the man. The monkey's computer-generated imagery is also quite well done and aesthetically beautiful. Although there were numerous unresolved plots, the presentation of the plot is highly engaging, and this did not deter viewers from enjoying the show. The performances are amazing, and when the songs first came on, I didn't think they were dull or unappealing; rather, the acting and choreography were excellent. https://flixtor.guru/better-man-2024/

Gladiator 2 - My Favorite Film of the Year
Harry Gregson-Williams's score significantly amplifies the film's emotional resonance. John Mathieson's cinematography is stunning and intricately detailed. Arthur Max's production design reflects thorough research and authenticity. The costumes by Janty Yates and David Crossman are convincingly realistic. The visual effects are of the highest quality. While the action sequences are engaging, they lean towards excessive gore, aligning with the narrative's demands. The editing by Claire Simpson and Sam Restivo could benefit from a more polished approach. Overall, GLADIATOR II serves as a worthy continuation of one of Hollywood's most cherished films, built on a strong premise, exceptional performances, and...

Remembering How to Hang Out (and how you can hang out with us)
Clearly we are not okay - as a society, as a community, as humans. After a nice weekend with some friends, we realized we had forgotten how to hang out, but only after remembering how good it felt. This might blow your mind, I know it did for me since the time period shared is from the year I graduated high school until near-present day. This article in The Atlantic talks about this phenomenon: "From 2003 to 2022, American men reduced their average hours of face-to-face socializing by about 30 percent. For unmarried Americans, the decline was even bigger—more than...

“So, in the pursuit of healing, joy is kind of a natural byproduct of that for me. But it takes a tremendous amount of work and awareness to recognize joy when it's present, because it's not always sunshine and rainbows and unicorns and hippie dippy stuff. Sometimes joy is just the absence of despair, that can feel tremendous — especially coming out of these really deep, dark and long periods — where it just feels like slog of moving through things to just be on the other side of pain. Just the absence of that despair and confusion can feel like joy, a...
