No Small Matter: Christ is Enough - Hebrews 7:23-28
It is faith that saves, so the content of our faith is no small matter. Jesus Christ is everything for our salvation. This is the main message of the book of Hebrews. Jesus fulfilled all the laws and ceremonies as an ultimate high priest who lives forever. We no longer need a temple building or animal sacrifices or kosher food laws or priests because Jesus Christ fulfills the need for all of these. Moreover, nobody in heaven or on earth loves us as much as Jesus Christ does. May 26, 2024 AM sermon at North Blendon Christian Reformed Church

No Small Matter: Salvation by Faith - Ephesians 2:1-10
It is faith that saves, so the content of our faith is no small matter. Ephesians 2 says believers are raised with Christ and seated with Christ in heaven. Salvation is all grace, beginning to end. Jesus overcomes sin and death, and by faith we are attached to him and share his victory.May 19, 2024 AM sermon at North Blendon Christian Reformed Churchhttps://youtu.be/gYUo2HJmA6w This is a public episode. David's Victories - 2 Samuel 8
2 Samuel chapter 8 tells of King David defeating one nation after another. The victories sound smooth and even easy, but Psalm 60 was written at this time and it is about military setback and asking for God's help. It shows how moments of anxiety become accounts of God's faithfulness. May 12, 2024 PM sermon at North Blendon Christian Reformed Church This is a public episode. No Small Matter: God Incarnate in Christ - John 1:1-18
It is faith that saves, so the content of our faith is no small matter. A believer's entire salvation rests on the person of Jesus Christ. John chapter 1 tells about the Word becoming flesh, meaning the Son of God took upon himself all the raw aspects of being human but was without sin. Being fully human and fully God in one person, he is the one and only salvation. May 12, 2024 AM sermon at North Blendon Christian Reformed Church This is a public episode. God's Covenant, David's Gratitude - 2 Samuel 7
2 Samuel chapter 7 is a pivotal moment in the history of salvation. It tells of David wanting to build a house for God. God responds that he will build a house for David and that his throne will endure forever. But there is a problem. David's throne ended with the Exile to Babylon. When Jesus was born, Mary was told that Jesus would have his father David's throne and his kingdom would never end. Because all God's promises are "yes" to us because of Christ, these promises apply to us also. May 5, 2024 PM sermon at North Blendon Christian...

2 Samuel chapter 6 tells of King David bringing the ark of the covenant into Jerusalem. A joyous event turns into a tragedy when someone touches the ark and then dies. No Small Matter: Creation & Providence - Psalm 104
It is faith that saves, so the content of our faith is no small matter. Psalm 104 is a poem of marvel at God's creation and rule over all things. No Small Matter - Trinity - Matthew 28:16-20
It is faith/belief that saves, so the content of our faith is no small matter. The trinity - one God in three persons - is one such belief. Many religions dismiss the trinity as illogical and even many believers mistakenly think Jesus is not divine and the Holy Spirit is not a person. Nevertheless, the trinity is how the Bible presents God, however mysterious it might seem. If you take away the belief in one God three persons, you throw away salvation by grace. No Small Matter - Scripture - Mark 12:35-37
It is faith/belief that saves, so the content of our faith is no small matter. While we can get a vague idea of God from the created order, it is Scripture that gives a clear view of God. The Bible is God’s written word: Divine writings by mortal pens. Surprisingly, the church never had a big gathering to decide which books would be in the Bible. The 27 books of the New Testament emerged organically by consensus over the centuries. Miraculously, the church worldwide agrees that these 27 books of the New Testament are Scripture. No Small Matter - God - James 1:12-18
It is faith/belief that saves, so the content of our faith is no small matter. When it comes to our belief about God, this has direct impact on our daily lives. If there were many gods, we would have to be on the good side of many deities. As it is, there is only one God to serve. If God were temperamental, we would have to worry about God's mood from moment to moment. As it is, God is immutable and consistent. Arianism: Jehovah's Witness Heresy - John 1:1-18
Back in the fourth century, a certain pastor named Arius started teaching that Jesus Christ was not equal with God the Father and was actually a creature. Called "Arianism," this view became very popular but was vigorously denounced by the Christian bishops of the time. The Nicene Creed was written to combat the idea that Jesus Christ is not fully God as well as fully human. The truth of Jesus' full divinity prevailed for many centuries. Then in the late 1800s, this idea was being taught again by a man named Charles Taze Russell, and his successors are known...

David Confessing Sin - Praying With the Patriarchs - Psalm 51
In Psalm 51 David confesses a terrible sin in a prayer to God. Our prayers are a mirror on our spiritual health. David Spares Saul - 1 Samuel 24
1 Samuel chapter 24 has David with a chance to kill the wicked king who has been hunting him down for so long. David’s friends encourage him to take the opportunity because it is from God, they say. David refuses to harm Saul but cuts off the corner of Saul’s robe. David then calls out and shows Saul the corner of the robe. David shows respect for a ruler who deserved no respect. David entrusted his life to God’s plan and justice, showing that God’s salvation will prevail despite any odds. October 15, 2023 PM sermon at North Bl...

Know Your Enemy: Our Own Flesh - Galatians 5:16-26
The Bible describes three enemies in following Jesus, one of which is our own sin nature, commonly called "flesh" in the Bible. While our flesh was originally created good, sin has spoiled our desires and inclinations. The flesh is the spoiled, selfish side of us that does not want to obey God or cooperate with others. Jesus Christ came in the flesh to redeem our flesh. Because Christ sent his Spirit, we can resist this enemy by walking in the Spirit. This is a public episode. Why Witness? Because There is a Heaven & Hell - 2 Thessalonians 1:5-12
2 Thessalonians encourages harassed Christians with a reminder that God's righteous judgment is coming when Christ returns. On that day, some will enter eternal life (Heaven) and others eternal punishment (Hell). Like it or not, these two final destinations are mentioned frequently in the Bible. It's our responsibility to tell people about salvation in Jesus. October 8, 2023 AM sermon at North Blendon Christian Reformed Church This is a public episode. Did Jesus Say the End Will Come in His Generation? - Mark 13:30
Jesus gives a bunch of cataclysmic prophesies, mentioning his Second Coming, and then says, "Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place." Some have used this to predict when Jesus will return. Skeptics say this proves Jesus was wrong. Much of what Jesus prophesied was fulfilled in the book of Acts and with the fall of Jerusalem to the Romans in AD 70. But some of what he said could not have possibly occurred yet. In the midst of these prophesies are instructions for how to face the future as believers.

Forgiveness for sins is a major teaching of the Bible, but once Jesus mentions a sin that will not be forgiven: blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. This is variously known as the eternal sin, unforgivable sin, unpardonable sin or ultimate sin. Looking at the context of Jesus' words, a number of specifications need to be met for someone to have committed this sin. In short, if you feel troubled about possibly committing this sin, then you do not qualify. The overwhelming teaching of the Bible is that anyone believing in Jesus and turning from sin has forgiveness. ...
