Episode 52: To everything that might have been (Space: 1999)
To everything that might have been... to everything that might yet be.The last podcast. Part 2 of our wrap up begins with paying tribute to the passing of Clifton Jones, so soon after Prentis Hancock leaving us. Computer Kano was always a fun character, jousting with Victor on intellectual matters, protecting computer like a proud father. We both hope you enjoy your life in the next world. We also then discuss how two of the stars being in X Files has passed Katie by. Better late than never.

Episode 51: Year 2 Movies and Bonus Material (Space: 1999)
To everything that might have been... to everything that might yet be.The last podcast. With a ting of sadness we wrap out what remains of the Space: 1999 universe, starting with the two Year 2 movies, Destination Moonbase Alpha and Cosmic Princess. What's not the like about seeing the pink gimp mask dude one last time, this time with a silly voice over? And Katie finally gets to meet Oliver Onions. Was it worth the wait?We then sweep up the semi-unofficial content, with:Message...

Episode 50: God's Will (Space: 1999)
The second of our two bonus pods see us pay tribute to the best moustache in showbizness, Prentis Hancock, who sadly left us earlier this month. Playing the pivotal role of 2nd in command, Paul Morrow, we remember him for all his magnificence (just don't mention the magic mushrooms).Moving on to the main event, we watch the fan edit God's Will - a great vision by Eric Bernard who spent years re-tooling the episode of War Games to explain away the differences between year 1 and year 2. To be honest, it's great seeing all...

Episode 49: Into Infinity/Day After Tomorrow (Space: 1999)
Our first of our three bonus pods sees us visit Into Infinity/Day After Tomorrow - so good they named it twice. Filmed between Year 1 and 2, this is an almost-Space 1999 episode, sharing a lot of the cast and crew. We have a lot of fun spotting the 99-isms amongst what was the highest of brow children's TV programme. Fred hadn't even got the gig, so may be he wasn't responsible for all of the jazzing-up/dumming down of Year 2, judging by this.We have Brian Blessed being very non-shouty, Nick Tate being the main...

Episode 48: The Dorcons (Space: 1999)
Oh no! It's the final episode of the show (but not of the podcast - rest assured). The Dorcons is one of the better year 2's although you have to forgive the missing ceilings and sparse set decorations. The budget really had been blown. We've the wonderfully evil Malik, Dr. Who being old and a bit slow, the old woman from the end of the last Star Wars movie being - well - official and a lot of recycled props. But this is a Maya episode, her range of emotions is splendid as she...

Episode 47: The Immunity Syndrome (Space: 1999)
As the most famous Mackem on the internet, Katie starts the pod celebrating some amazing Sunderland-related news. Then we quickly move on to the penultimate episode of Year 2, The Immunity Syndrome. There's John wearing a strange ski mask thing, Tony getting space rabies, the girls flying a glider and an amazing red shirt body count. There's also a famous dad, which Katie gets before the opening credits have even rolled. So much for teasing that one.Post-pod we take an article from 1977 about the Landau-Bain's bedroom habits, which is actually two sentences on them...

So after there being no Spectre in the Seance Spectre, there's no Devil in the Devil's Planet. What you do get though is whip-wielding red lycra clad BDSM statuesque women running a dodgy prison. There's a plot about another planet which kills them (but not us) but we are just too distracted by John becoming a boy toy.For some reason (probably money) there's only John in it. We also get Bill and a new character who's name Colin gets wrong yet again. At least he remembered she was in Aliens. We discuss future James...

Episode 45: Dorazk (Space: 1999)
As a special birthday podcast treat to Katie, Colin asked Kathryn Leigh Scott - one of the stars of the Space: 1999 episode "Dorzak" - to record a little message for her. It just so happens that we'd just done the episode on the pod, so it fit right in. And for the fans out there I'm sure there's a few bits in there that will be of interest to the Space: 1999 community. Episode 44: The Seance Spectre (Space: 1999)
Ok let's get it out of the way. There isn't a spectre or ghost and there's barely a seance. There, done. Katie was very disappointed to hear that. There is the lovely Carolyn Seymour though, who is proper sci-fi royalty. What you do get is a batshit crazy guy with too much hair ragging through Moonbase Alpha asserting that planet of the week is habitable, when in reality it nearly kills John and Maya. Until she turns into a plant. And a child version of herself. The security guards are particularly inept in this episode; it's one...

Oh yes it's the two parter as a two hour podcast. Will our stamina hold out? Colin's bladder? Katie's wine supply? Who knows - actually we do as we've just published the episode. We only had one domestic. I think. The Bringers of Wonder is a cracking rollocking two-parter which sees the inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha (apart from John) brain-roofied into thinking their wives/boyfriends/former-dodgy-professor have to come to rescue them. Guess what? They are actually blood filled eyeball shower curtain monsters from another planet. Happens all the time.

So we've The Troubled Spirit's slightly lesser cousin as a young blonde with a tight perm can do magic tricks, turn Maya into a caterpillar and force John into telling us that he loves us all. Even you Colin (manc) who completely gets the opening scene wrong. It's actually quite a good episode this, with the emphasis on the metaphysical and even haunted house type spooky stuff, as John relives the time when he left people to die of Venusian space herpes. Episode 41: Space Warp (Space: 1999)
We think this is the funniest episode we've done yet, but then again not every episode has pink gimp masks and Maya turning into every creature you could imagine (and some you haven't). So they are rich seams to mine. We've John and Tony going off to a derelict spaceship and not finding a xenomorph, Maya with a lot of hair in medical, Alan being the primary action hero we all know and love and Helena not knowing how many penises the at-deaths-door alien possesses. There's something about a space warp too but we've...

But first we go through the husbands of our notable guest star. And Through the Keyhole. And Pink Panther.Aww it's Lynne being all wide-eyed and bouncy haired as she swoons her way from being Tony's homebrew partner in crime, to Imhotep's anti-matter pair off buddy. Still at least you have us to entertain you. We bookend today's episode with a what-what-what description of an AI revival of Space: 1999 and how Maya could have been Whitney Houston's mother. We get John going full Captain Kirk, we see Sarah Douglas' belly button, Helena doesn't throw a comlock at John and JS Bach's great great great great great great great grandson plays 'C'. Who'd have thought it?Doctor Vincent is rubbish at making artificial hearts, John buggers off in an Eagle so he's out of most of it, Colin mixes up the character Patrick Osgood with the footballer Peter Osgood, Katie tells a story about Barbara Bain as a nun and there's another macguffin element they go searching for down below the moon. There's God who was also Merlin too - handy that, who despite claiming to be the most wonderful sorcerer ever, can't even make animals out of balloons. That's the last time we get invited for Sunday Dinner. In another "meet the parents" special, we visit Brian the Brain, a psychotic robot hell bent on living forever, or at least to the end of Act 2. Our noteable guest star this week is something who is most famous for having one scene as a dead person with pebbles over his eyes. And he's a Sir. Although we haven't a clue why. He's also dressed as an egyptian/roman/pagan person with a boy son thing with a dreadful haircut. Basil and Connie have their work cut out with the dot-to-dot eye makeup, and Veronica turns up as both his dead wife and his future. Episode 32: The Rules of Luton (Space: 1999)
Quite possibly the worst episode of Year 2 (although there's plenty to choose from), we re-enact the Gorn episode of Star Trek for the delight of the viewers. It's actually a hoot, with a lovely tender scene for Maya and John. Do you know any Psychon jokes? We have the Lion, Scarecrow and Tin Man from Wizard of Oz, John obsessed with a stick, mutinuous trees, shaved Winnie the Pooh, a hedgehog declaring war on Sybil Danning, Tony's homebrew three sodding times and Colin talking right over John pouring his heart out.

We are back to normal after Christmas Yorkshire TV and Meet the Parents Specials with a fun episode, full of strange accents and bad science. Earth from the future finds Moonbase Alpha and promises to neutrino teleport them home. Will it happen? What could possibly go wrong? And why does Freddie Jones have a rubbish American accent? Post-pod we do a fun little quiz working through all the badges worn on the uniforms of Year 2. Whilst LSRO was easy, we had no chance with VJC. It's very exciting for us in Mackem and the Manc land as we have a Meet the Parents special! Not only did we record this episode with Katie's parents (who also don't really have much of a clue about the world of Space: 1999 and they were there at the time) we also recorded it actually in Sunderland, home of the Mackems. It's a mad time this week as a fusion of light jazz, Lionel Blair, bare chested men and cockroaches confuse the life out of both of us. Colin, even though he's watched it a million times, still doesn't quite get what this episode is about. Indeed, this would have fit in well within the body of Year One. We would have loved to see Victor dancing. Katie can't remember seeing Quills (2000) and Colin has a hard time with the androids being human and the humans being android. Welcome to the Christmas Special* Space: 1999 Mackem and the Manc Podcast. Now, we at TMATM love a spurious link and this is a doozy. For some reason Yorkshire TV in the UK, in 1977, the announced the Year 2 episode The Taybor as a Christmas special - despite the fact that apart from them being a big lad with a beard giving gifts, on the surface this has nothing to do with the big day. A really fun, tight episode sees a couple of young whipper snappers with red spots and lycra circus outfits terrorise Moonbase Alpha with plans of revenge on their wise elders. Peter Duncan is in it, although with a terrible voice over. His ageing 100 years in a minute is well worth it though. Kids programme remember... So it's Season 2! How will Katie react to the massive changes to the Year 2 crew, cast, sets and storylines? Badly I'd imagine seeing as Victor was her favourite character. Colin sits back and tries to answer 18 questions a minute. The actual episode is quite a good one, there's Brian Blessed back for a second time, the introduction of Maya the wow-factor, BDSM nappy-wearing aliens, roofie brain sucking machines, green blobs, fainting wives and mento volcanos. It's the last episode of Season One, and it ends and a gentle meander through well trodden Sci-Fi territory. All the good and not so good shows have a "life on Earth began out there" panspermia episode and Space: 1999 is no exception. But the Mackem and the Manc not being your average podcast, we go one stage further and discuss the MUF - the thing that does (or doesn't) tie all the Season One episodes together. There's not only a collasal guest star™ in this episode, but our now regular foxy posh brunettes. We get a few spaceships, a twist ending, and Uncle Victor being utterly utterly lovely. Aww. What happens when someone who's never seen classic 70s sci-fi wa...

Episode 9: Force of Life
Before we get to the colossal™ guest star and the famous Solarium scene, Colin spends 10 minutes telling the audience all about the crazyness of ITV television scheduling during the 1970's. So fast forward to 10:25 if you want to just hear about this mad episode. Ian McShane wanders through MoonBase Alpha, killing people with either amazing beards or being a foxy posh brunette. There's no technobabble as we are straight into the action - and that's just the bikinis in the solarium. There's a posh alarm clock, the season's first married couple, Katie never having se...

Episode 8: Guardian of Piri (Space: 1999)
It's Katie's first sexy episode, as Catherine Schell walks around in amazing shoes and next to nothing teasing Koenig. John, on the other hand, takes joy in walking around an abandoned Moonbase Alpha for the second episode. There's fembots, too-much male chest hair and Computer Kano getting plugged into the mainframe. Hope someone remembers the USB-C cable. And there's the joy that is the wacko chessboard and polystyrene balls combo that makes up the planet Piri. What happens when someone who's never seen classic 70s sci-fi watches it with their other half who's a...

Episode 7: Missing Link (Space: 1999)
It's a colossal guest star™ episode as the other famous one from Hammer Horror wears a terrible wig and turban. It's Koenig's turn to get the spotlight, and he and his manhood are the only thing that will save the day. There's the story of prosecco, soft focus land, the death button, ceefax, hitchhiking on the moon, Cushing getting a spray tan and the joys of peach melbas. Only in the world of Space: 1999 would you find everything in a 50-minute episode. Oh, and scare-kids-to-death monsters. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did. ...

Episode 6: Another Time, Another Place (Space: 1999)
Paul has a beard. Victor is a Jedi. Regina goes batshit, has rice krispies on her face, and then dies. Helena is both dead and not dead. But she at least has a loom. One of the more ethereal (i.e. crackers) episode of '99 sees the crew finds their doppelganger on a future, buggered-up earth. Still, at least Medical comes with free paint and canvases. What happens when someone who's never seen classic 70s sci-fi watches it with their other half who's a total geek for it? Will they love it, hate it...

Episode 5: Earthbound (Space: 1999)
Colin gets all fanboy as he watches his episode. He promises the first "Colossal Guest Star" of the show to Katie, who gets him straight away. Christopher Lee is a lovely space hippie, instead of being a tall monster sith lord frankenstein man with a golden gun. The triple ending gets Katie right where it matters, as it does Simmonds. #Space1999 #GeekyCouples #Podcasters #Space1999Fans #RetroSciFi #VintageTV #70sNostalgia #SciFiGeek #MoonBaseAlpha #Space1999Podcast #ClassicSciFi #PodcastDebut #PodcastNewbies #SciFiClassic #70sTV

Episode 4: Ring around the Moon (Space: 1999)
So it's an eyeball planet this week, as poor Ted Clifford gets his brain taken over by a sound effect. Helena does ABBA before ABBA, Alan shows off his chest hair and people don't type really fast on letterless keyboards. Colin can't remember much about this episode apart from the scary sound effect. What happens when someone who's never seen classic 70s sci-fi watches it with their other half who's a total geek for it? Will they love it, hate it, or ask for a divorce on the spot? Season 1 Episode 3: A Matter of Life and Death (Space 1999)
It's a tomato planet. Or is it? It's Helena's husband. Or is it? There's a parrot... you get the idea. The first "bad science" episode of the pod sees one of the main character's husbands turn up. The only problem is that he is made of anti-matter. Tut. Why he didn't own up and just he had been on a session and lost 5 years, that would have been more believable. Katie tells us about guernies, theirs a water bottle with an anntenna, the hilarious discovery of an Autopsy Room and many many more treats abound.

Episode 2: Black Sun (Space: 1999)
Katie has survived one episode. Trouble is that she doesn't think it's pompous so far. Little does she know that Black Sun is probably the most pompous of the lot. And it isn't even episode 2 - Colin's memory isn't what it used to be. Still, the joy of '99 is you can watch it in any order. What will Katie think of Paul Jones, 70's working man's club/disco gods and the world's most boring game of strip poker? What happens when someone who's never seen classic 70s sci-fi watches it with their other...
