370: Survivors & Heroes Expedition
"We know why they did it, but we don't know how they did it. Because once we saw what we saw—and we're like tested ultramarathon athletes—we just kept shaking our heads, like, how did they ever make it? Just sheer desire and will." Bob Crowley, Hal Hall and Tim Twietmeyer are discovering American West tales and trails. Join them as they chat with Luis about their upcoming trip called Survivors & Heroes Expedition which is a 120-mile horseback journey reprising the heroic 1844 Sierra Mountain crossing of the Horseback Party of Six highlighting the untold story of the...

EP 683: Sh!t You Don't Do on the Trail - Western States Edition
We recently replayed an episode from 2017 called, "Sh!t You Don't Do on the Trail" with Tim Twietmeyer and Bob Crowley. We had so much fun walking down memory lane, we thought we should update it for 2024. Since we are near the start of Western States 100, we thought we'd skew it towards this race, but many of the principles mentioned are applicable wherever you are running. And of course, it wouldn't be in TRN style without gamifying the episode :). So Bob and Tim used descriptive but cryptic titles for each topic. We have to guess what they are...

In December of 1846, a small group split off from the Donner Party in a desperate attempt to find help. The first of four relief parties departed Johnson Ranch on February 4th, 1847, with mules and provisions.
