Part 1 WKSU's Webcast 2000 Fresh Air Tribute
25 years ago, WKSU celebrated their 50th anniversary and when they offered "us" 4 hours of streaming time on WKSU’s “Fresh Air Feature” website, and we jumped at that opportunity. Transmusic Airwaves presents those 4 hours produced 25 years ago, as a Fresh Air Archives Special. Our goal for the programming was to reflect on some of the “old music” with a strong desire to show where Fresh Air would have been, and where it would continue to go! Paul Ciminero obviously took this to heart when he founded Transmusic Airwaves 12 years later…and here we still are! Learn more about WKSU's Fresh Air by dow...

24.2 IS E.B.M.
No Comment. (ENG) Electronic body music is celebrated on February 24th for International EBM Day! Electronic body music (EBM) is a genre of electronic music that combines elements of industrial music and synth-punk with elements of dance music. It developed in the early 1980s in Western Europe, as an outgrowth of both the punk and the industrial music cultures. It combines sequenced repetitive basslines, programmed dance music rhythms, and mostly undistorted vocals and command-like shouts with confrontational or provocative themes. The evolution of the genre reflected "a general shift towards more song-oriented structures in industrial as to a general turn towards the dancefloor by many musicians and genres in the era of post-punk." It was considered a part of the European new wave and post-punk movement and the first style that blended synthesized sounds with an ecstatic style of dancing (e.g. pogo). EBM gained a stable following in the second half of the 1980s. Around that period, a youth-cultural scene emerged from EBM whose followers describe themselves as EBM-heads or (in North America) as rivetheads. The term electronic body music was first used by Ralf Hütter of the German electronic band Kraftwerk in an interview with British music newspaper Sounds in November 1977. In June 1978 Hütter reused the phrase in an interview with WKSU radio (Kent, Ohio) to explain the more physical character of the Kraftwerk album The Man-Machine. Although the term originated in the late 1970s, it was not until the 1980s when it reappeared and started to come into popular use. "EBM stands for 'electronic body music', a term which only real

Covid and the Meaning of Liberty w/ Mason Lawlor
Should you have the freedom to risk spreading a disease? To go places with many people and exhale, when you don't have a vaccine during a pandemic? If so, what are the parameters of said freedom? Yet, I wanted to sit down and record this episode with my longtime friend, dissident libertarian, Kent State journalism student, host at Black Squirrel Radio and reporter at 89.7 WKSU Mason Lawlor - to record this period in history and the philosophies...

Transmusic Airwaves (Episode #357) 400th Radio Broadcast - February 14, 2020 - with Paul Ciminero (host)
Milestones and kidney stones, I've had them all (and I'll take milestones every time over those other painful ones) so on this week's TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #357) I'll celebrate the former as I've reached the 400th broadcast overall since returning to radio in 2012. During 2012 I was lured back into radio (having been a broadcaster during the mid-70's at Kent State's WKSU-FM) by a friend working at San Francisco internet radio station KUSF-in-Exile run by former DJ's of the bay area's legendary KUSF. I produced 43 episodes under two previous names before settling on 'Transmusic Airwaves' in March 2013.So today...

Beginning in the fall of 1976 through the summer of 1981, I was a DJ on FRESH AIR as well as hosting and producing numerous jazz and folk programs. This tape comes from an archive of FRESH AIR shows gathered from former DJ's, listeners, and friends who recorded the show as it aired over...
