A Grammy-award Bluegrass musician who was a native of Raleigh has died suddenly. Jim Mills died expectedly at the age of 57 on Friday, according to Hall-Wynne Funeral Services. Ryan Berglund Wake County Teacher of the Year 5-7-2024
This year’s Wake County Teacher of the Year originally didn’t have teaching in mind for his career. Ryan Berglund used to work as a welder. Berglund has been a Millbrook Sustainable Agriculture Academy teacher since July 2019. He started teaching Career and Technical Education after working as a welder and equipment fabricator. The North Carolina Museum of History announced on Wednesday announced the museum and its exhibits are getting a major makeover. It will lead to the museum closing for 2-to-3 years, starting in June. Third-floor exhibits will close first, on Monday, June 3. A retired psychology professor from Duke University has written a new book about his experience spending a summer hosting for the Durham Bulls. Dr. Harris Cooper has written "Finding America in a Minor League Ballpark: A Season Hosting for the Durham Bulls." A majority of residents interviewed for the 100th High Point University poll see the gift-giving tradition of Valentine's Day as a positive part of the holiday, while 26% sees it as a negative. Richard Voorberg Siemens Energy 2-13-2024
Governor Roy Cooper has announced a Job Development Investment Grant for Siemens Energy Incorporated to support expanding its existing manufacturing facility in Charlotte. It will produce large power transformers. The project is expected to create up to 475 direct operating jobs and 285 construction jobs in Charlotte and an additional 84 jobs for Siemens Energy's Raleigh locaztion. The North Carolina Zoo has expanded its lands for local wildlife conservation by adding 139 acres to Ridges Mountain Nature Preserve, increasing it to 423 acres. The addition was a gift from the Conservation Fund made possible by the North Carolina Land and Water Fund, as well as private donors.
