Finally my first studio mix in 8 months, feels like it’s been forever!
This features a walk through some of the sounds that have caught my ear the last few months, touching on a few different styles and feelings.
I had recently spent some time in Barcelona, observing terrazzo style flooring with shells set within polished concrete. This felt like an apt metaphor for this DJ mix, where each track is an ornamental shell, helping support a greater polished purpose.

I had the peaktime midnight slot with the honor of playing after Lee Burridge, so I started this one off with an organic vibe then transitioned through prog, tech-house, and just some straight up bangers. A few unreleased ID's in there from my boys Enamour , m.o.n.r.o.e and Saqib.

Hi there, happy to share a new studio mix. This mix is inspired by the few weeks I just spent in San Francisco. We stayed in a house overlooking the foggy hills and it inspired the sonic feeling of dark lush hazy grooves. Also the opening tune is one of my unreleased collab tracks with Vridian “Salvation”, which will be coming out on Manjumasi vinyl soon. More details on that coming up!

It's a quirky tune, with a borderline ridiculous organ solo that really makes the most sense at 6am at Kater Blau. atishatish - [057] - december 2015 - reasonIn contrast to the approach I took with my last studio mix, "Intuition (#055)," I decided to take this on from a calculated approach relying on reason rather than feeling. The mixes I respect and enjoy listening to the most are stylistically varied, so for this mix (not unlike most of my mixes) I aimed for an output that achieves the same, balancing lush vs stripped, angry vs delicate, synthesized vs organic, serious vs quirky.
The fun challenge of assembling a mix in this fashion is finding a way to weave through those various sounds without sounding jarring or schizophrenic. The mixes I respect and enjoy listening to the most are stylistically varied, so for this mix (not unlike most of my mixes) I aimed for an output that achieves the same, balancing lush vs stripped, angry vs delicate, synthesized vs organic, serious vs quirky.

My set was quite early in the day with the first few guests just arriving, so I got to start things really light (as I love to do) and slowly build a vibe for Naveen to take things over followed by Three, Konrad Black, and Bill Patrick. Thanks to Mike Perry for starting the day off with some light deep grooves, too. Overall, it was a really nice party with some really nice people. I hope to get to do it again next year (but maybe with less rain!).

About half-way into it, I get a little more challenging and spacey with some k-style tracks that I appreciate but rarely play (29:00+)...Then I depart from the heady stuff and heavily contrast it with a driving Romboy track (43:00+) before a melodic/sultry cooldown with a Guillame track followed by Marco Resmann.
I'm pretty happy with this one as I can feel my sound maturing, although perhaps at risk of alienating some listeners, but that's life...I also explored more varied and technical transitions.
