May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a time to celebrate Asian American culture and history, including the contributions of the AAPI community to America’s multi-racial democracy. At the same time, we want to recognize the challenges faced by the AAPI community, such as the intensified hate and racism targeting our community during the Covid-19 pandemic. In this episode, we speak with Annie Lee, CAA’s Policy Director, to understand CAA and Stop AAPI Hate’s work in addressing anti-Asian racism. Annie explains how Stop AAPI Hate has collected anti-Asian hate incidents, what trends we see in these reports, and how policy changes can help to address experiences of harassment on public streets, mass transit, and big businesses. Annie shares about Stop AAPI Hate’s No Place for Hate legislative agenda in California, which includes three bills (AB 2448, SB 1161, and AB 2549) which aim to make our society a safer place for all.
