1月10日,中国台湾航空工业发展公司(汉翔航空工业,AIDC)宣布,他们已经完成了新型基础教练机第一阶段的初步设计,目前正在寻求台湾地区当局的批准,以获得资金推进该项目第二阶段详细设计。未定名,而单价已定这款飞机尚未公布型号和名称,公开信息仅包括:其将采用普惠的PT6A-68B涡桨发动机(1193kW功率),最大速度为325节(602千米/时),最大航程856海里(1585千米)。AIDC宣称,如果一切顺利,这款新型教练机将在2028年推出原型机,并在2031年开始批产。台湾地区防务部门目前装备的初级教练机是T-34C,采购于1985年,目前仍有40架在服役,并计划从2033年开始逐步退役。AIDC推出新初级教练机,意图正是占据T-34C退役后出现的空缺。AIDC表示,该项目将制造45架新飞机,计划耗资214亿新台币,折合6.9亿美元(飞机单价约1529万美元)。25年使用寿命期间的维护费用预计520亿新台币,折合16.7亿美元。AIDC声称该机的采购和维护成本将低于从国外引进的型号,但不清楚其引用的“186亿新台币采购费用”和“529亿新台币维护费用”标准是与市场上哪一款同类机型对比而估计得来的。此外,AIDC还强调,该项目可以实现70%以上的本地化生产率,可以在其本地经济体系中拉动近390亿新台币的经济。
