Alison MacLeod
This month, Red is in conversation with Canadian-British author Alison MacLeod, whose latest novel "Tenderness" weaves together fact and fiction to explore the genesis and repercussions of one of the most notorious books ever written: D.H. Lawrence’s "Lady Chatterley’s Lover." Through her extensive research, Alison has uncovered not only an FBI plot to suppress "Lady Chatterley’s" publication on both sides of the Atlantic, but also the likely model for Constance Chatterley herself. Join Alison and Red as they discuss how her findings fed into the creation of "Tenderness," and how the controversy surrounding "Lady Chatterley" exposed fault...

Tenderness with Alison MacLeod
CKCU’s Susan Johnston sits down with Booker Prize nominee Alison MacLeod to discuss Tenderness , an ambitious, spellbinding historical novel about sensuality, censorship, and the novel that set off the sexual revolution. On the glittering shores of the Mediterranean in 1928, a dying author in exile races to complete his final novel. Lady Chatterley’s Lover is a sexually bold love story, a searing indictment of class distinctions, and a study in sensuality. But the author, D.H. Lawrence, knows it will be censored. He publishes it privately, loses his copies to customs, and dies bereft. Alison MacLeod recreates the novel’s orig...

I have always been curious about what ‘community development’ looked like in remote rural areas. I have met Alison on a number of times at different events over the years and found out more about Applecross each time.Alison’s experience of raising a family in Applecross , finding work in Raasay and latterly coming back to Dumfries and Galloway was an interesting tale in the telling. On the way, we chat about how rural groups fix things, what the challenges are and the future of high streets; notably Midsteeple Quarter.
