Sentir HispanoÁlvar Núñez Cabeza de VacaÁlvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca (Jerez de la Frontera, 1492/1495 - probablemente Valladolid,4 1556/15593) fue un explorador y conquistador español. En 1527 participó en la expedición del gobernador Pánfilo de Narváez, que recorrió las costas de Florida, Alabama, Misisipi y Luisiana. La expedición se dispersó por las corrientes de la desembocadura de un gran río y Álvar naufragó en Texas en 1528. Tras convivir con los indígenas durante seis años, pasó por Nuevo México y Arizona,56 hasta llegar a México en 1536. Regresó a España en 1537. En 1540 partió a Sudamérica para gobernar el Río de la Plata y el Paraguay.
