Ryan Ellison // An Emotional Solo Trans-Atlantic
#350. Ryan Ellison, friend of the show, returns to talk about his emotional voyage solo across the Atlantic. Aboard POLAR SEAL, Ryan got involved in a migrant rescue at sea and helped save the lives of dozens of migrants as he stood by to mark their position while the helicopter rescue crews did their work. Ryan reflects on the traumatic experience and the life epiphanies that came from the experience, why he stopped in Cape Verde, why he continued solo after almost abandoning the attempt, and what he learned about himself in the process. Chris Museler Returns // Sailing Journalist
#183. Chris Museler, NY Times journalist & sailor extraordinaire, has been a longtime friend of the podcast since the early days, and he’s back yet again for another catch-up. Chris has a remarkable journalism career and is one of the few people who get to write about sailing for the NY Times. He crossed the Atlantic onboard Hugo Boss as an onboard journalist with recent podcast guest Ryan Breymaier, sails in most of the major ocean races, and cruises his own cold-molded schooner Magic out of New England. #167 is Ryan Breymaier, solo sailor, family man and absolute badass! Ryan is one of the few American sailors into short-handed ocean racing & won the double-handed New York to Barcelona race as co-skipper of Hugo Boss (a story Chris Museler told way back on episode #30). Ryan was in France when I spoke to him, working with Team Safran on preparing for the next Vendee Globe. We talked about his early years racing at St. Mary’s, how he got to France, what sailing on a 100-foot trimaran is like, and how to manages to balance his lifestyle with his young fam...

John & Amanda Neal LIVE // Circumnavigators
#138. I sat down with John & Amanda Neal of Mahina Expeditions, two of my favorite people in sailing and a huge inspiration both philosophically and practically in building my own offshore passage business with Isbjorn. This is the first of several podcasts I recorded in front of a live audience at the Toronto Boat Show in January, so you’ll hear some questions pop in from the handful of people we had in attendance. Co-hosted by Ryan Briggs, Andy's best friend. This is a re-run from one of the very first podcasts Andy ever did, back in the 'Two Inspired Guys' days. Baxter & Molly Gillispie // Inspiring Cruisers
#55. Andy & Ryan Briggs talk with Baxter and Molly Gillispie, serious adventurers. John and Amanda Neal, previous guests on the show, got us in touch with the couple, and we're glad they did! Baxter is a professional BASE jumping and 'squirrel suit' instructor, and he and Molly met skydiving. Their both skiers and mountaineers, having live for a while in Utah. Baxter summited Everest a while back, with Molly trekking into Nepal with some friends to meet him at Everest Base Camp. #30. Andy and Chris met at the 2011 Caribbean 1500 when Chris was covering the rally. They caught up this morning on Skype and had a PHENOMENAL chat about Chris' experience onboard Hugo Boss in the recent New York - Barcelona IMOCA 60 race. It's the first time in history an outside journalist has been allowed onboard a shorthanded (double- or single-handed) to report objectively on what the crews go through in such a lengthy endurance test. Andy sat down with Merrill aboard his Shannon 43 'Serenity' in Tortola, two days before the start of Atlantic Cup / ARC Europe 2013. Merrill is a sailor, furniture builder, wine collector, beer brewing enthusiastic and really just a super active, thoughtful and inspiring guy! The talk meandered from sailing - and Merrill's reconstruction of the old Shannon - to lawn mowing, wine, coffee and more in between. Adam Scott wins the Masters! Heck yeah! First Aussie ever to do so. I'm stuck in Bermuda, so didn't get to watch it like I usually like to, but I made do. Nate gave me the update on Tiger's little rules drama from Friday when we made landfall on Saudade, and I managed to catch the playoff tonight at the White Horse Tavern in St. Georges. Thrilling! When we first talked to Matt back in October - our second-ever episode! - his Ocean Research Project was just an idea. Another one from the archives! Okay, this isn't so old - Andy recorded it in Chicago during last month's Strictly Sail show at Navy Pier. Pawel did indeed do that, and talks about it here, but more interesting was his production company he has in Poland, where he grew up, and he's really into music. BONUS EPISODE! Matt Rutherford post-Solo the America's
Greetings again! The third episode in one week! Matt and Andy sat down about a week after his return to Annapolis (in April 2012) from his record-setting Solo the Americas expedition. The naysayers had completely gone away, and Matt quickly became a local hero and an international celebrity in the sailing world. This was recorded in Pusser's Waterfront Bar in Annapolis, so it's a bit noisy in the background, but Matt deserved his burger and brewski that Andy bought for him. Excuse the distractions - it's a worthwhile listen. Enjoy!

BONUS EPISODE! Matt Rutherford, pre-Solo the Americas
This is a a bonus episode we're posting in conjunction with the recent interview with Matt Rutherford. Prior to Matt's recored-breaking Solo the Americas expedition, Matt and Andy sat down in a little marina on Burnside Street in Annapolis where Matt kept his 32-foot Pearson, the boat he'd twice crossed the Atlantic on. At the time, Matt was virtually unknown, and when he told people about his idea, many of them ignored him, claiming it was a death-wish. But after listening to this talk with him, it's hard to doubt the man, even before he set out.

He returned to the Atlantic and sailed north again, all the way back to Annapolis - all alone, nonstop and in a 27-foot Albin Vega sailboat built in the 1970s. The journey took him through 27,000 miles of ocean over 309 days. Matt is the...

#1: Wild Spirit Bushcraft & Dog-Sledding
Richard Rees is the neighbor at Andy's wife Mia's family house in Dunderbo, in the countryside in Sweden. He comes from Wales, in the UK, where he runs Wild Spirit Bushcraft, an outdoor adventure/education company. Since coming to Sweden, however, he's focused on expanding the business and is moving up north to start dogsledding trips. Andy spent the winter this past year helping to train the dogs - which was a riot! - and spoke to Richard at the house in September. He and Claire Harris were just getting ready to move - with their 26 huskies! - and...
