Drunk driver who struck and killed CHOP doctor on bike last summer to be sentenced
The man who admitted to driving drunk and fatally striking a pediatrician who was riding her bike near Rittenhouse Square will be sentenced Tuesday morning. 70-year-old Michael Vahey pleaded guilty in April to homicide by vehicle, third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and DUI offenses in the death of Barbara Ann Friedes, a doctor at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The 30-year-old was riding her bike along Spruce Street last July when she was hit by Vahey’s car. It prompted outrage throughout the city and a call for more protected bike lanes. Vahey likely faces the rest of his life in pris

Episode 6: Cereal, Killer
Cereal is a podcast from this American life (sorry Sarah Koenig but cereal is more American than Serial so I'm stealing your elevator pitch). Cereal tells one story - a true story - over the first course of the day, breakfast. Quite literally the Morning Star, cereal follows a hauntingly similar plot arch to that of Lucifer. From humble beginnings created during radical religious-based dietary movements of the latter half of the 1800s, cereal has fallen from a healthy alternative to the "evils of coffee" and overindulgence of morning sausage consumption to a primary sugar blasted processed...

Episode 5: Holiday Snack Sack Pt. 2
Part 2 of our Holiday Special. We try a disgusting Peppermint Twinkie, classic Christmas Tree Cakes, another Oreo variant (😅), and wash it all down with our pod favorite...Cheerwine Holiday Punch! We also discuss the etymology of localized sprinkle lingo. Post-pod research, it turns out 'Jimmies' probably isn't an euphemism -- but the urban legend has become implanted enough that it's probably best to avoid the term. We've included the Snopes link in the show notes which inspects the origin of the word (and sprinkles itself) and provides great historical context. Oh and our special guest Ama...

Episode 4: Holiday Snack Sack Pt. 1
The holiday season brings our first guest, Amanda Price Rone, who was nice enough to let us force feed her junk food on her stateside visit. Amanda teaches at a school in the Southeast Asian nation of Myanmar and my guess on how her post-xmas interactions with students go... Students: Amanda, how was your trip back to America? Amanda: I ate my weight in Twinkies and Christmas Tree Cakes. Students: This tracks. 🇺🇸 Part 2 will drop tomorrow (Friday, Dec 20).Special Guest: Amanda Price Rone.

We attempt to break the the Guiness Record for blood viscocity as we try a dozen different Oreo variants. This was a tough one to power through. Only made worse by how many Oreos we had to take home after the episode. Also, April rails on vegans. Please send any and all comments to her personal email: april@eatyourheartoutpodcast.com.Links:

Episode 2: Of Lay's & Leakage
Before the first episode of EYHO: Eric: Should we censor any bad language for this podcast? April: Yeah maybe let's not cuss since our families may listen to this. During Episode #2: April says 'anal leakage' approx 17 times The above recount of our short-lived existence as a family-friendly podcast can also be used as an analogy for Lay's alternative flavor strategy. Starting innocently enough with the first variant 'Sour Cream & Onion' in the 70's to the peculiarly named 'Numb & Spicy Hot Pot'. Join us as we talk about and...

Episode 1: Getting Pumpkin Spice Out of the Way
WE'RE HERE Just a few snack fiends who decided to start a podcast to build a biweekly excuse to eat the worst food we can find. Growing through adolescence in the 90's, we were subject to the pinnacle of the junk food onslaught on America's youth. No doubt a non-trivial agent in shaping our adult minds -- primarily through sugar highs and a barrage of dental visits. On our first episode, we dig into the PSL scene storming through October. Probably good to get this one out of the way early, because I pretty much can't stand...
