225: VRK-1 and BAF-1 release meiotic chromosomes
️ Episode 225: VRK-1 and BAF-1 release meiotic chromosomes In this episode of PaperCast Base by Base, we explore VRK-1 phosphorylates BAF-1 to remove chromatin from the nuclear periphery during early meiotic prophase in C. elegans, and failure of this step impairs pairing and synapsis and generates heritable genome lesions Study Highlights:The authors used an auxin-inducible VRK-1 depletion system and genetic perturbations to show that VRK-1 phosphorylates BAF-1 (Ser4) to release chromatin–nuclear periphery contacts during leptotene–zygotene. VRK-1 loss or a BAF-1 Ser4 phospho-mutant increases chromatin tethering at the nuclear envelope, delays homolog pairing, slows...

La fermentazione – quella stessa magia microbica che trasforma l’uva in vino – è al cuore anche della kombucha, dove batteri e lieviti dello SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast) tras...

The programming started as early as the 1950s but became part of a more formalized network that was funded and operated differently and officially classified as public television. The emergence of PBS brought Julia Child and Bob Ross, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and Sesame Street, Masterpiece Theatre and Great Performances, and other programs and specials that expanded viewers' horizons and experiences while watching television over the decades. The Brief #10: Should BAF be included in the freight rate or be a variable fee?
BAF is the abbreviation for Bunker Adjustment Factor. The term "Bunker" refers to the Fuel that is used to operate ships. The ship operator is responsible for the payment of these bunkers to the bunker supplier. As fuel prices are quite volatile, the shipping lines charge a fee called "Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF)" to cover the fluctuations in global bunker costs. BAF is charged either as a separate charge or included in the freight charge depending on the trade route and agreement between the carrier and the shipper/BCO.
