Where Finance Finds Its Future
What do stock exchanges need to survive the tokenisation of everything?
The major traditional exchanges have adapted well to the migration of transactional activity to other trading platforms, notably by developing their data and post-trade revenues, so it is surprising that they remain indifferent to tokenisation. With some notable exceptions, traditional stock exchanges have shown little interest in the revolutionary potential of issuing, trading and servicing tokens. Explanations for this indifference vary. Some say the existing markets (especially equity trading) are already so efficient that tokenisation is unnecessary. The fact that exchanges which have invested in tokenisation have yet to earn a return, and are now making economies, is not...

Erfahrungsaustausch 27.4.

Discovery On Target 2014 | Opportunities and Challenges with Developing Small Molecule Inhibitors
Kip Harry, Conference Director at Cambridge Healthtech Institute discusses Ubiquitin Proteasome System drug discovery with Dr. Benedikt Kessler, Ph.D., University Research Lecturer, Ubiquitin Proteolysis Group, Target Discovery Institute, Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford Discussion Questions Include: • What are the most present opportunities in this space? (Another way to ask that): What are some of the most promising UPS targets currently being investigated, and within which indications? • What challenges have slowed the progress of generating lead molecules targeting various components of the UPS? • Why are Deubiquitinases (DUBs) emerging as viable therapeutic targets? • Are there drug discovery challenges specific to targe...

Proteomics and Biomarkers
Dr Benedikt Kessler tells us how proteomics helps find biomarkers. In most living organisms, the ubiquitin-proteasome system is responsible for the degradation of proteins, either because they're damaged or they reach the end of their life span. Ubiquitin marks a protein for elimination. Alterations in this process are responsible for many human diseases. Dr Benedikt Kessler studies the role of deubiquitylating enzymes that remove ubiquitin from substrate proteins.

Proteomics and Biomarkers
Dr Benedikt Kessler tells us how proteomics helps find biomarkers. Biomarkers are molecular features that give us clues about underlying biological processes. They are typically used to monitoring a disease or predicting the outcome of a treatment. Modern analytical equipment allows us to measure thousands of molecules at the same time. Dr Benedikt Kessler studies the role of deubiquitylating enzymes, involved in the elimination of proteins marked by the ubiquitin-proteasome system. Alterations in this process are responsible for many human diseases. Dr Kessler works to improve medical diagnosis and treatment through the use of biomarkers.
