Dweller On The Threshold
HARD NOSE THE HIGHWAY
Doing an episode like this is one of the reasons I chose this journey in the first place. To uncover hidden magic in previously overlooked or maligned places like Hard Nose the Highway. Van rarely performed any material off of it and critics savaged it, but does it really deserve the scorn?Irish filmmaker/writer/artist Eamonn Dillon and I disassemble this work to find it's bloody and beautiful beating heart. eamonndilloneverything.comwrite the show at : dwelleronthethresholdpod@gmail.com

Dweller On The Threshold
Pacific High Studios 1971
This is the first episode of an occasional sideline from the catalog, into the live bootleg arena. This recording is widely available all over the internet and was the first non-catalog live release I heard of his. I believe it nearly equals "It's Too Late To Stop Now..." and is the single boot I return to most. Joining me for this discussion of the show is return guest, Colton Cerny. Although this is his second appearance, it was recorded almost a year ago (which may become evident with our references to Van's then most current music, etc). Enjoy!

TUPELO HONEY
This episode, musician Colton Cerny and I discuss the third album of Van's initial mainstream trilogy of releases. That's right, we go deep into the history, players and songwriting of this classic album. It's a damn shame its's not available on any streaming sites. Let me know if you agree with me and Colton or not. Enjoy!

Matt Holland Interview Part One
It was a great pleasure to talk with trumpet player/musical director, Matt Holland. Matt has played with a laundry list of legendary artists and served as Van's go-to trumpeter/multi-instrumentalist for many years (primarily from the mid-90s to the 2010s and beyond). Enjoy part one of our conversation.

Episode 83: Brian Gathy (End On End Podcast, DC punk)
Episode 83 is a conversation with prolific podcaster and veteran DC punk Brian Gathy. Brian is co-host of End On End, a pod that examines every Discord Records title in the order they were released, he also singlehandedly produces and hosts The Unanimous Hour dedicated to deciphering the fractal brilliance of DC band Lungfish’s catalog of songs as well as Dweller On the Threshold which explores the music of Van Morrison. Our conversation touches on those projects but the bulk of our talk focuses on a new podcast (my sec...

Interview with Van's guitarist John Platania (Part one)
In the first diversion from the discography theme of the show, I sit down with longtime Van guitarist, John Platania. Van met him in Woodstock and has utilized his talents (off and on) throughout the years ever since. With an instantly recognizable acoustic and electric touch on guitar, John has contributed some of the most memorable riffs in Van's catalog.

He has a deep and insightful relationship with Van's music and is one of the mot articulate guests one could hope for. Enjoy!

ASTRAL WEEKS with Ryan H Walsh
This was an intimidating one. How do you put words to what a work of art this deep, healing and transformative? Well, thankfully I've got good company to help me with that this episode, author Ryan Walsh. His book "Astral Weeks : A Secret History Of 1968" is a must-read, for both fans of Van the Man, but also anyone interested in the raw, weird times of the 60s. There's many easter eggs this episode. If, like me, you thought you knew all there is to know about Astral Weeks, think again! I had my mind blown a couple times on...

Blowin' Your Mind w/ Matt Farley
This episode we get to the beginning of Van's solo career proper, with Blowin' Your Mind ( a title Van had no control of, by the way - which is a running theme of this album). My guest for the episode is Matt Farley, who is a bit of a DIY renaissance man, writing and recording thousands of songs, directing dozens of movies and one of my favorite podcast guests. Having heard him on another pod and knowing he has a deep love for a chunk of Morrison's catalog, I knew I had to get him on the show. This...

Them? Not Again!

Angry Young Van
Welcome to the long overdue first podcast focused on the music and life of Van Morrison. Being the first episode, there's room to grow, but having vainly searched for Van-centric podcasts for years, it became clear I was going to have to be the one to do it. Hope you enjoy. And being my first episode, there's the prerequisite factual errors already, While editing the show, I realized I had been mysteriously and obliviously calling Bert Berns "Bob" the whole episode. Whoops. Let me know what you think and what you'd like to hear more of.

The Unanimous Hour
FAMBLY (With Tony Sylvester)
Family is important, community is important, a congregation is important. All these aggregates of union find a Technicolor uneasy home in the world of the song "Fambly" by Lungfish. These concepts merge and mutate with a yearning for transcendence, suited in armor for an unnamed war. The last track on Lungfish's debut closes the circuit and plants the seed for what will follow. Your host, Brian Gathy, who is today joined by renaissance man, Anthony Sylvester, will utilize both the linguistic telescope and microscope to understand and pontificate on Fambly.

#77: Restless Movement In An Empty Room (A Conversation With Brian Gathy)
Episode 77 is a conversation with Brian Gathy. Brian hosts the excellent podcast End on End which is covering the entire Dischord Records catalog by release. Brian along with his co-host Jeff do an amazing job digging deep into these records, and have had a who's who of Dischord related folks on the podcast. We of course talk quite a bit about Brian's time getting into music in Washington DC, seeing shows at The Wilson Center and we talk about the process of podcasting, something I was looking forward to talking about. Great conversation, great guest. Brian will definitely be...

In this very special viral bonus, Brian Gathy and Aldred Basiga do what they should've done the first episode and provide a little background on who they are and why they care about this music (and each other).
