Christina Cheung, Assistant Professor of the Department of Anthropology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, specializes in bioarchaeology and is keen on reconstructing the dietary habits and mobility patterns of our ancestors through stable isotope analysis, so as to address issues of gender, migration, subsistence economies, and humans/environment relationship. Zhong Xinle is an MPhil student in Gender Studies, CUHK, affiliating with the Department of Anthropology, CUHK. Her thesis studies the family-building of Chinese queer women, and how they adopt different strategies to cope with the constraints of their families and mainstream society. CUHK Anthropology Podcast 人類學看世界從精神科醫生到人類學家 黃宣穎的中國「心理熱」研究 “From psychiatrist to anthropologist” with Hsuan-Ying Huang香港中文大學人類學系助理教授黃宣穎多年來在醫學與人類學之間游走,他於 2003 年畢業於國立臺灣大學醫學院,從事精神科,並於2013 年於哈佛大學獲社會人類學博士學位。黃宣穎專注於醫療人類學的領域,從 2008 年開始著手研究中國的「心理熱」,以及西方式心理治療在中國的發展。自稱為「半個人類學家和一個精神科醫生」的他,致力以人文社科的視角審視不同地方和社會的醫療觀念與實踐。 (本集訪問以普通話進行。) Assistant Professor in the CUHK Department of Anthropology Dr. Hsuan-Ying Huang describes himself as “one psychiatrist and half an anthropologist”. In this episode, we invite art writer and curator Yang Yeung to share how the anthropological training equips her with unique sensibility and a “worm’s eye view” to see the world. Yang graduated from the Faculty of Social Science of the University of Hong Kong. She then pursued MA in Anthropology at Yale University and PhD in Intercultural Studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She has worked as a journalist and documentary director. Ju-chen received her Ph.D. from Rutgers University. Her Ph.D. dissertation addresses the remaking of Beijing under the impacts of the late socialist Chinese state and the expansion of global capitalism in the early 2000s. She is keen on learning about the “aspiration” of different people, from Filipino workers in Hong Kong, to independent music communities in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Design researcher Ire Tsui, who graduated from the MA programme of CUHK Anthropology, applied anthropological training and way of thinking to her work in media and design research. CUHK Anthropology Podcast 人類學看世界考古知今:由一片陶瓷看世界 專訪黃慧怡 "Archeology and Us - the World in a Broken Tile" with Sharon Wong剛通車不久的宋皇臺站,早年被發現埋藏了聖山遺址,引起大眾關注。今集我們訪問了從事考古挖掘和研究的中文大學人類學系助理教授黃慧怡,了解她如何透過考古遺址、舊物的碎片,甚至是骸骨,挖掘前人的生活、地方歷史文化、與外界的連繫。她強調,考古不是停留在過去,而是幫助我們理解現在和未來,建構人們的文化身份認同。 (本集訪問以粵語進行。) The discovery of the Sacred Hill Site in the new Sung Wong Toi Station has aroused the public’s concern on conserving archaeological sites with historical importance. In this episode, we interviewed Assistant Professor Dr. Sharon Wong, who has devoted decades to archaeology and cultural heritage studies. Through investigating specific archaeological sites, relics, ruins and bones, Sharon digs into the local culture, history and human activities in the past, as well as the connections with the outside world. Sharon argues that understanding the past enables us to understand the present and the future, and it helps to construct our cultural identity.
