Typhoon Danas has severely impacted southern Taiwan. On July 13, the Ministry of the Interior announced it will deploy about 1,000 substitute servicemen currently undergoing basic training in Chengkungling from July 14 to 17 to assist disaster recovery efforts in Tainan, Chiayi, and Yunlin. These conscripts, mostly recent graduates of police academies, are certified in EMT1, disaster prevention, and volunteer service. President Lai Ching-te reiterated that while the military plays a disaster relief role, its primary duty remains national defense and cannot legally enter private homes during Han Kuang drills.
