The Anti-Christ
In this sermon, Chris Romig explores Revelation 13, focusing on the rise of the Antichrist, symbolized by the first beast from the sea. He emphasizes that when read through the lens of the Gospel, Revelation offers hope rather than fear, since Christ has already secured victory. Chris Romig explains that the Antichrist is a deceptive, charismatic figure prophesied throughout Scripture, empowered by Satan to lead the world astray, especially through counterfeit miracles and global authority. The sermon acknowledges multiple Christian interpretations of Revelation but adopts a futurist perspective, while noting that the "spirit of antichrist" has been at...

Conquering the Dragon
In this sermon, Chris Romig centers on Revelation chapter 12 as the key to understanding the cosmic battle between God and Satan. He explains that the chapter reveals the deeper story behind world events: Satan, after being defeated by Jesus at the cross, now turns his fury on God's people—both Israel and Christian believers. Chris Romig underscores how this ongoing conflict explains centuries of suffering and anti-Semitism, as well as the challenges Christians face today. He highlights two of Satan's main strategies: deception (twisting truth and distracting people from God) and accusation (filling believers with guilt and do...

Throughout history, Satan's efforts to destroy God's people and stop the Messiah were repeatedly defeated. Chris reassures listeners...

Our Calling for the New Year
In this sermon by Chris Romig, the focus is on prayer, revival, and spiritual renewal at the start of a new year. He invites the congregation to imagine what could happen if God sent true revival to their church, city, and nation, especially during a year of major anniversaries like America's 250th and Venice's 100th. Chris Romig explains that, biblically, revival is a supernatural work of God that restores spiritual vitality to believers who have grown stagnant, leading to broader transformation in communities. Grounding his message in 2 Chronicles 7:14, Chris Romig emphasizes the importance of humility, repentance, and...

Bethlehem: Then and Now
In this sermon by Chris Romig, the focus is on the biblical and historical significance of Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus. He shares personal reflections from visiting the Church of the Nativity and describes how Bethlehem was a place marked by sorrow and obscurity in scripture: a site of Rachel's death, Naomi's bitterness, and humble beginnings for King David. Despite this legacy of grief, God chose Bethlehem as the place where hope would enter the world: Jesus Christ. Chris Romig connects the ancient prophecy and history of Bethlehem to its present-day struggles with conflict and hardship, emphasizing...

He shares insights from his pilgrimage to Nazareth and the Church of the Annunciation, emphasizing the longstanding reverence for this location in Christian tradition. In this sermon by Chris Romig, the focus is on Reformation Sunday, commemorating Martin Luther's decisive act on October 31, 1517, when he nailed his 95 Theses to the church door in Wittenberg, challenging the medieval church's practices. Romig highlights the enduring relevance of Luther's courage, drawing a direct line to contemporary Christian responsibility. Romig invokes the memory of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, whose sermon in 1932 called the complacent church to action against the rising tide of antisemitism and Nazi ideology in Germany. Despite immense risks, only a minority of 3,000 pastors out of 18,000 joined the Confessing Church in resisting Hitler's regime. This...

Blessed are the Persecuted
It's easy for us to forget that an estimated 260 million of our Christian brothers and sisters are living in places around the world where they routinely experience high levels of persecution. There were more Christians martyred for their faith in the 20th century than in all the previous nineteen centuries combined – and the global persecution of Jesus' followers continues in the 21st century at a devastating rate. Why would Jesus say "blessed are the persecuted?"

Blessed are the Peacemakers
At the time when Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount to his disciples, Judea had been fully under the control of the Romans for almost 100 years. That is from now back to 1920. Before that, except for a short but tumultuous period of self-rule, from the time of the exile, they were ruled by the Babylonians, then the Persians, then the Greeks, and now the Romans. All Israel was looking for the Messiah to come, to conquer the foreign rulers, and set up the kingdom of God as a material kingdom on earth. An independent Judean state under self-rule. That...

Blessed are the Pure in Heart
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Sounds wonderful … but it also seems like an intimidating ideal. Pure in heart. Doesn't it seem like an impossible dream, an unreachable goal? It's understandable how we might hear "blessed are the pure and heart" and think, "I can't measure up to that." If purity of heart means sinlessness or moral perfection, then nobody could achieve heart purity. God's Word tells us in 1 John 1:8: "If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us."

What we do and how we live is always rooted in who we are. As we surrender to Christ, and the Holy Spirit begins cultivating in us the attitudes of the first four beatitudes … Christ's character is formed in us, and the outward fruits of Christ-likeness will begin to grow and show in our living.

Blessed are Those Who Hunger and Thirst After Righteousness
Righteousness is one of the key ideas in the Sermon on the Mount: Matthew 5:10 – "Blessed are those who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness." Matthew 5:20 – "Unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will never enter the Kingdom of heaven." (Followed by a string of teachings about righteousness, specifically having to do with commandments regarding murder, adultery, divorce, oaths, revenge, and loving enemies.) Matthew 6:1 – "Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. Matthew 6:33 – "But seek first his...

The Beatitudes: Blessed are the Poor in Spirit
The words of Jesus from Matthew 5-7, known as the Sermon on the Mount, paint a picture of the "Kingdom Life" that Jesus came to bring. These chapters contain some of the Bible's most familiar words – but how are these teachings reflected in our daily life? Our culture today desperately needs Christians who authentically live the kind of life that Jesus describes. The demands may seem daunting, but we will explore how building our lives on a relationship with Jesus and depending upon His grace actually enables us to reflect a quality of life that can bring hope and blessing to...
