ITR's Saidel-Baker: Inflation's going to get worse, but won't trigger recession
Lauren Saidel-Baker, economist at ITR Economics, says the "green shoots have been forming" among leading economic indicators, showing that growth is ahead for the economy, along with a normalization as the last ripples of the Covid-19 economy are finally playing out. She expects the Federal Reserve to struggle or fail in its efforts to hit a 2 percent inflation target and thinks consumers should get used to higher prices, but even if tariffs add to upward pressure she thinks the economy can avoid a recession. Christian Munafo, chief investment officer at Liberty Street Advisors — manager of the Private Shares Fund — talk...

Who is the "Trump Bible" For? Christian Nationalism, Freedom of Religion, and MAGA Marketing
In one of daily newsletters from NYT this week, I heard about the new "God Bless the USA Bible" being endorsed by former president Trump in a video he posted to his social media platform. The Bible is a leather bound King James Version translation of the Christian Bible and also includes the full texts of the US Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Pledge is Allegiance. It mostly had me wondering - who is this really for, and what's it say about that person's view of religious expression in society?

What did you want to be when you grow up?
I got an email from a student on the yearbook today asking me some questions for the spread they're doing on the new teachers for the yearbook, and I was not surprised by the questions about what did I think about the year what did I think about teaching at my school, but my interest was piqued by the last question. She asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I had a really good time thinking about it! The answer might surprise you!

Do I have to be perfect?
The worst best thing happened to me last week on a quiz I had to take in grad school. It was a pretty straightforward quiz that I should have gotten a hundred on because really I just had to read a document to answer the questions but I got one question wrong out of 20 which meant I no longer have 100% in that class. What that should mean for me is that I put less pressure on myself to be perfect and I enjoy my life more in the next two weeks. But how's that going? Listen to find out

Ep 1:14 - What Rights Should Parents Hold In Public Schools?
When we (parents) send our kids to the local public school, we engage in a social contract that requires us to abdicate some of our rights...but how much? What does it mean that schools are a "public/community resource"? If school board offices are elected, how much should parents expect the school board to be responsive to their wants/needs/desires for their children? #education #parents #parenting #stl #stlouis

Ep 1:13 - "I Can't Believe I Get to Work Here!"
The US News and World Report school ratings just came out and my new school was ranked 20th in the state! Obviously, I should be excited. But as I discussed in episode 11, I was struggling! Reflecting on work this past Labor Day had me thinking about attitude and the importance of showing up to make someone's day, no matter your work situation. I'm choosing a better attitude! #schools #work #education #besthighschools #stlouis #stl

Ep 1:09 - "Don't Meddle"
Where is the line between being your authentic self, being invested in your community, and "meddling?" I read from 1 Thessalonians 4:11 in my Bible earlier today - "to seek to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you..."

Ep 1:08 - "What Are You Doing In Class Next Week?" - Curriculum Pt I
In my new classroom, I've moved from a district that had very specific curriculum documents and pacing and shared not only common unit assessments, but even formative assessments and HW assignments for Algebra 1. At first, I prickled at it, but I realized after a couple of years that not deciding all of that for myself gave me more capacity to think of my STUDENTS and not only maintain rigor but work toward equity. I don't have that anymore. How can I (or even should I) put that structure on myself?
