Clare Local Enterprise Office Forecasts Positive Year For Businesses Despite Challenges
Clare Local Enterprise Office is forecasting a positive year for businesses across the county despite cost pressures and global uncertainty. New data published by the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment reveals that LEO Clare created 184 new jobs last year which translates to a net jobs creation figure of 51. The office also provided financial support to 206 small businesses employing 1,348 workers countywide. Head of Clare Local Enterprise Office Bernadette Haugh has been telling Clare FM's Seán Lyons that while there are challenges in every sector, there are also opportunities.

14 Clare Homeowners Lodge Appeals Over Defective Concrete Block Compensation
14 households in Clare have lodged appeals over the level of compensation granted to them under the Enhanced Defective Concrete Blocks Scheme. Under the scheme, homeowners affected by the defective mineral are entitled to receive up to €462,000 to rebuild or repair their property. To date there have been 180 appeals made over the approved payouts, with the vast majority coming from Donegal and just 8% stemming from Clare. Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Cooney believes most here are satisfied with the scheme, but that improvements are still needed.

Over 1,000 Clare Families Benefitted From Newborn Baby Grant Last Year
Over 1,000 families in Clare have benefitted from a new Government grant established to assist parents of newborns. Introduced in Budget 2025, the Newborn Baby Grant gives a once-off payment of €280 to families for the purpose of providing for the material needs of newborn babies and newly-adopted children. The grant was paid in respect of almost 50,00 children last year at a cost of €14 million, with 1,041 Clare families receiving a payment under the initiative, resulting in supports for 1,053 babies in the county. Coordinator of the West Clare Family Resource Centre Mary O'Donoghue says when a new baby enters a household, every little helps.

Almost €4M Granted For Active Travel Projects In Clare
Almost €4m in funding has been made available for active travel projects in Clare. Of this, €2.75m is going towards Safe Routes to School Schemes and active travel projects in Ennis, Crusheen and Athlunklard. €1.2m has been ringfenced for greenway projects with €500,000 going to the West Clare Railway Greenway, with a further €500,000 for Bus Stop Enhancements. It's been suggested that a village in Clare is being referred to by the wrong name. At this month's meeting of Ennis Municipal District, Mayor of Clare Fine Gael Councillor Paul Murphy has claimed he has reason to believe his native village's name was never formally changed to Clarecastle. The settlement was initially referred to as 'Clare' and first appeared on a map as 'Clarecastle' in 1900, with this name coming from the structure known as 'Clare Castle' which stands on an island of the River Fergus. The Irish Creamery And Milk Supplier's Association is warning that Clare's dairy sector will also be drastically affected by the Mercosur deal. Clare County Council Collected Over €120,000 In Parking Fines In 2025
Clare County Council collected more than €120,000 in parking fines last year. 2025 also saw a fourfold increase in the number of parking fines issued at the Cliffs of Moher. According to new figures, the total sum collected in parking fines in Clare across last year was €126,295 which was 15% above the figure for 2024. 61% of fines were issued in Ennis but the county town saw a 3% drop in fines compared to the previous year. Council Urged To Record Number Of Homeless Deaths In Clare
Clare County Council is being urged to begin record the number of people who died in homelessness in the county. At present, Dublin City Council is the only local authority that keeps a record of deaths of homeless people. The latest Government figures show 98 adults were residing in emergency accommodation in Clare in the last week of November. Clare Haven is an a position to enhance its services following a modest funding boost. The Domestic and Gender Based Violence charity has been allocated €15,000 by CUAN in the latest round of government supports. It's claimed the uptick seen in the number of imported cars being purchased in Clare has been caused by a greater diversity of options in the import market. Over 12,000 Clare people have attended the emergency department at University Hospital Galway in the last three years. A total of 13 dogs were surrendered to the Clare Dog Shelter in a single day this week. The seven adult male dogs and six puppies were brought to Clare’s County Dog Warden on Monday. The animals have been vaccinated and assessed by a vet, and have been brought to rescues in East Clare, Tipperary and Limerick. Frankie Coote says it's not unusual.
