Sunday Discussion: Is there a need for more protracted legal battles over the decision to remit Zuma's sentence?
Various political parties have taken an exception to the release of former president, Jacob Zuma on remission. This comes after, President Cyril Ramaphosa approved the release of about 9 488 inmates as part of the remission programme. In a statement, released on Friday the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development says the release of prisoners was due to overcrowding as some of the Correctional Services facilities. Relations between President Cyril Ramaphosa and his predecessor Jacob Zuma are inevitably rocky. These relations were soured by the removal of Zuma as president. Pressure on him to appear before the State Capture Commission has also worsened the already frosty relations. Remarks by Ramaphosa on the nine wasted years under Zuma compounded the animosity. But Zuma didn't help the situation, alleging that money was used to secure the ANC presidency for Ramaphosa.
