The New Exodus is Now: Jeremiah 16:14-21
The New Exodus is Now: Jeremiah 16:14-21 David Griffiths In Jeremiah 16, God introduces the idea that, after the Exile’s Judgment is completed, He will lead Israel back in a kind of New Exodus, a return from Exile. Jesus in Luke 5 lets His disciples know that He has come, in part, to finish the judgment, and then also to lead that New Exodus. This means that we may be reconciled with God. But it also means that we have a responsibility to encourage others toward reconciliation too, as Paul describes in 2Corinthians 5.

Hope Without Success: various passages in Jeremiah David Griffiths Roughly half-way through our study of Jeremiah, we’ve been looking at what Jeremiah says, his sermons and prophecies against Judah, but, well, How’s Jeremiah himself doing? How’s it going, Jeremiah? In summary, how it’s going is, not great, but it’ll be okay.Photo by Gary Meulemans on Unsplash Permalink

Watch for the Holy Spirit (2026 Summer Series)
Watch for the Holy Spirit David Griffiths In Philippians 1:6, 9-11, and 3:12-15, Paul describes clearly that the work of spiritual growth is something God works in us—the fruit of our lives is fruit He produces in us. But Paul prays for that to happen and works to encourage it to happen “more and more.” He who began a good work in us will complete it… So, Paul says, I strain forward and press on ahead. And this is the mature perspective, he says. How do people change? The Spirit changes people—us and them. What can w...

Be Less Stupid: Jeremiah 10
Be Less Stupid: Jeremiah 10 David Griffiths Jeremiah’s sermon in Jeremiah 10 is about how foolish false-gods are, how stupid the pagan nations are for following them, so that Judah, the Real God’s people, don’t follow those idols and get stupid themselves. To live our lives in the real world with the real Jesus as our real God, that’s real living. That’s “life indeed.”Photo by Gary Meulemans on Unsplash Permalink

Real Peace, Joy, and Hope: Jeremiah 9:23-24
Real Peace, Joy, and Hope: Jeremiah 9:23-24 David Griffiths What matters most, is what matters most to us. If that’s our own wisdom or power, or our personal wealth, this will not only corrode our lives but lose our souls and gain God’s judgment. These things—more or less good things, generally speaking—cannot be ultimate things for us.Only God can be our ultimate good. This is the lesson of Jeremiah 9:23-24… and Luke 4, beginning in verse 1… and 1Corinthians 1:30-31. It’s a lesson for all time. It’s a lesson for today.

What Breaks God's Heart: Jeremiah 8:18-9:9
What Breaks God's Heart: Jeremiah 8:18-9:9 David Griffiths God is grieved over the sins of His people. He truly knows that sin is; He sees them all; and He most perfectly loves everyone affected by sin. He feels the wound that sin creates, in each of us, and in our culture. And He has provided the “balm,” the medicine, and the Physician who will administer God’s healing grace, as often as we need it.Photo by Gary Meulemans on Unsplash Permalink

The Most Important Thing about Us: Jeremiah 7:1-8:3
The Most Important Thing about Us: Jeremiah 7:1-8:3 David Griffiths Nothing quite like the experience of driving a vehicle that is wildly out of alignment. A similar experience can occur in our lives when we live at odds with the most important thing in our lives—that we are attached to the LORD and He has attached Himself to us.This is the central complain of Jeremiah’s “Temple Sermon.” It’s an offensive and provocative sermon, delivered to people on their way to attend church, to awaken them to a deep and troubling problem in their lives. Rest for Your Souls: Jeremiah 6:13-23
Rest for Your Souls: Jeremiah 6:13-23 David Griffiths We all of us have a wound in our souls—a rending duality of self: one which wants what we want and will do what we want to get it, and another that wants to at least appear to be a good person and, hey why not, religious. But this is not how we want to be, not truly. We need God to provide healing for our souls. it’s the old, old, path, the ancient and good way: repent, believe, obey.(This is not what...
