This is a public episode. This happens to all of us
As you may know, I have been making these meditations on youtube for about an year now. These are improvised long ambient compositions that goes everywhere and I love making them. Today was also one of those days where I placed my camera and hit record to make another one of these. The length of these videos usually range from 8-15 minute mark. I like to think of this as doing the dishes music or existential crisis - eyes closed - looking at the ceiling kinda beat (or the lack thereof). I also plugged in my microphone after a...

"our embers are as deserving of our protection as they are our attention"
I have not stopped thinking about the new Death and Birds post called “embers” in the last few days. I have caught myself asking how Chloe came up with the line “The universe is under no obligation to make sense to me" to "existence forms a web, not a ladder" to “What awaits is a Daliesque landscape, where breathtaking despair plays chess with love, and hopelessness waltzes with truth”As I sat down this evening and recorded this, I thought, “How can someone write like this?” to “How can I write this?” Ever since I have been on this app, each new post...

ICYMI - These videos are part of my series that I am doing on YouTube called “Attic Meditations”, where the idea is to do one hundred of these regularly to learn more about composing, arranging and overall listening. I got back into making this after almost a three-week gap, and I loved putting this together.Just a few recommendations for the weekend along with this:To listen -Nala Sinephro - “Endlessness”Natalia Lafourcade - Soledad y El MarFlorist - Live at the Tiny Desk ConcertTo read -How Writing ‘My Struggle’ Undid Knausgaard by Ruth FranklinNoth...

Back on the gram.
This is the video I shared on my Instagram after being away from it for the past six months. About five months ago, I asked myself that do I want to go back and get sucked into the type of content I am shown there and get my attention robbed from me via the hyper-addictive reel-centric feed. Today, I asked myself the same question, and the answer was - It’s worth another shot. So, I decided to see it for a week before the app allowed me to reactivate and focus my time here on substack, which has be...

Dispatch #3
The idea for this one came from the much-needed rainfall two days ago. I was getting ready for Friday and there was a window of total cloud cover but only light drizzle - the only way I enjoy the rain. This is how I love making music. The technique is called Live looping where one layer after another, things keep building up and it’s all improvised on the spot. You may know FKJ as an artist who makes music like this but I suggest watching Binkbeats. You may have noticed some Hindi writings that I send out occasionally. Th...

the difficulty of writing about my photographs
In the last couple of months, I have had a difficult time writing about my photographs. It should be simple right? but I have come to realise that it isn’t.My photographic practice which everyone calls as my “Work” revolves around Lodhi Garden in Delhi and the landscape that Bir has to offer along with objects that usually gets ignored by most of us in our day to day lives. I have been meaning to write about my work for a long time now and each time I try, for some reason, it never resonates with me. The proble...

Listen now | Hello! You are receiving this because either you or your cat wanted to hear about life and all its shenanigans with me. So, if you wish to unsubscribe, please ask your pet before doing so. This year, I have subscribed to about 8 newsletters. The reason I stopped enjoying a lot of them is because of hyperlinks. As much as I love spending time on the internet, trying to find new things, I don’t particularly enjoy it when an article has a bunch of hyperlinks. I guess that is just me and that’s what you’re here...
