The Slowdown: Poetry & Reflection Daily
1076: a story from the eighties by Debra Marquart
Today’s poem is a story from the eighties by Debra Marquart. The Slowdown is your daily poetry ritual. In this episode, Major writes… “Occasionally, I pretend to resist feelings of nostalgia. Somehow, I got it in my mind that remembrances of things past prevented me from standing fully in the here and now — that musings about foregone events would eclipse any potential value I placed in the present."Celebrate the power of poems with a gift to The Slowdown today. Poems for the Moment
Poetry Month Compilation - Poems for the Moment + Poetry Out Loud
"Poems for the Moment" is a series of short pieces -- poems by North Dakota poets that we invited to share poems reflecting the current moment -- some of them newly written, some poems they already had that were appropriate. Two Poet Laureates (Larry Woiwode of North Dakota and Debra Marquart of Iowa) are among the eleven poets who share their works. They are gathered together here. Then, they are followed by highlights from the North Dakota winner and finalists from this year's Poetry Out Loud competition. High school students perform poems by recognized writers.
