Gregory's sharp, satirical takes on race and society resonated with both Black and white audiences, which was a rarity at the time. Dick Gregory used hi...

In this episode, Da Bruhs tackles Nigger: An Autobiography by comedian, civil rights activist, and truth-teller Dick Gregory—a bold, unapologetic account of a life lived at the intersection of poverty, pain, protest, and punchlines. First published in 1964, Nigger is not just an autobiography; it’s a declaration, a protest, and a deeply personal journey into the soul of a man who refused to be defined or diminished by America’s most loaded word.Gregory reclaims the slur that once sought to dehumanize him, using it as both the title of his book and the entry point into a...

Laugh Tracks Legends of Comedy with Randy and Steve
Dick Gregory
A groundbreaking comic from the 1950s who blended standup skill with sly racial and social commentary, Dick Gregory went on to a career that mixed writing, performing, and social activism for 5 decades. As was common in the 50s, Dick's gift for comedy was discovered by his army buddies. Hugh Hefner gave him his first big career break, filling in for Professor Irwin Corey at the Playboy Club (a gesture that Dick never forgot to acknowledge). From there Dick played top clubs, becoming increasingly political in his approach. In 1968 he ran for President on a "peace" platform, and he became...

“DICK GREGORY“ The legendary Civil Rights Activist, Comedian, Author, Health Guru is captured in full form in South Central, LA. . Gregory rants and raves and gets deeply philosophical on the subject of injustices committed to African Americans. Recorded entirely in a Black Health Club where he was invited to give a lecture on his famous "Bohemian Diet" (the diet is included in this recording). The recording is raw and on fire; pure Gregory and a must for anyone who is looking for an entertaining expose on domestic conspiracy theories, the truth about the O.J. Simpson trial and...

Dick Gregory is a Force to Reckon With
Dick Gregory broke barriers for African American comics. In fact, he was the first black comedian to sit next to Jack Paar becoming a trailblazer for other black comedians. He had a very successful comedy career, but he felt the call of civil rights activism which took priority over making people laugh. Not only did Dick Gregory run for mayor of Chicago, a year later he ran for President of the United States and even put his face on the $1 bill. He went on to become an actor, a health guru, and an author. The one thing he was com...

Dick Gregory + Bill Cosby = the great Godfrey Cambridge
Somewhat neglected due to his short career in stand-up (he went on to star in movies), Godfrey Cambridge attacked racial issues the way pioneer Dick Gregory did, but used more of the manic vocal and facial skills that Bill Cosby pioneered. Godfrey's blend became uniquely his own, and Epic signed him for four albums. Godfrey wrote articles (for Monocle among others), a book, and starred in the cult film "The Watermelon Man" in 1970 among others. He was a great talent.

Dick Gregory: Kent State (excerpts)
Over 30 years ago, Dick Gregory - speaking at Ohio's Kent State - noted that a country spying on its own citizens is one that is weak and fearful. Today, it seems that little has changed. With new revelations that the Bush Administration has been spying on such groups as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Greenpeace and the LA Catholic Worker, and with an admission from the White House that it has engaged in wire-taps without judicial authorization, decide for yourself whether our nation has truly progressed.
