My child is exceptional! Parents viewing their child through rosy glasses and according behaviour: parental praise
In this podcast, hosted by Lisanne van Houtum from Leiden University, we will learn about the rosy views parents have of their children, and how the way parents respond to praise and criticism about their child is related to parents’ beliefs of their child’s qualities and flaws. Furthermore, work of developmental psychologist Eddie Brummelman will be discussed, which gives us insights in how parents’ own praise to their child may influence how children view themselves, which can go wrong, although well-meant, in the case of overpraising, leading to higher narcissism levels in children.

Talking about gratitude (Michelle Spix - Maastricht University)
For this podcast episode, I talked with my friend Sarah about the role that gratitude plays in our lives, as well as in therapeutic settings. Over the course of our discussion, but also when talking a look at the literature, I was surprised that a relatively easy intervention like gratitude diaries and letters can already have a positive effect on well-being, health and emotions. Therefore, I hope that you become as interested as I in practicing more gratitude after listening to this episode. Thank you for tuning in!
