Written and directed by Chris Sanders based on a book series of the same name, the film is also distributed by Universal Pictures. In the film, Roz, voiced by Nyong'o, is a robot shipwrecked on an uninhabited island, must adapt to her surroundings, build relationships with the local wildlife, and become the adoptive mother of an orphaned gosling.
