Paradisco @ Strange Brew [Bristol]
I was lucky to open for the legend Maurice Fulton in Bristol a couple months ago! I brought my Scarlett to record my set, warts and all to share with you. A mixed bag of 'FoGy' sounds like Surinamese rock or Taiwanese funk, with a bit of classic disco thrown in to get the crowd moving. I really had a blast at this venue and with this crowd, thanks a million to Paradisco for having me!

Bside Incoming: Freedom Of Groovement
Bside Incoming: Freedom Of Groovement We are very pleased to present Tem from Freedom of Groovement on the Bside Incoming Series. He’s an event promoter, music researcher and a bit of a music obsessive. The ethos is : No Borders on the Dancefloor. Not only does the music break the bounds of geography and explore all avenues but their projects also have a global outreach. Contributing to Amsterdam’s Radio Tempo Não Pára, more recently with HMTW in Curitiba Brazil, but it was with Bristol based 1020 radio where the journey began. Each episode on 1020 explores the music of one Na...

Episode 21: Haiti
We’re back with a new country for our Around the World series on 1020 Radio! This time we’re taking to Haiti 🇭🇹 for a tour through the native sounds of konpas direk, mini-jazz and mizik rasin. Despite it’s small size, Haitian music has made waves all over the globe. The irresistible danceability of konpas transcends borders and language - even in Haiti it’s sun in Créole, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese etc etc. Far from being a one trick poney, konpas has constantly evolved to keep audiences moving, first by introducing guitars during the mini-jazz movement, more recently incorporating d...

Episode 17: Deep Cuts
We put this together to celebrate nearly 2 years on 1020 Radio (you can tell by the numbering we've missed a few shows along the way), and look ahead to our first live set in front of real IRL people for Loose Lips at the Cause in Tottenham. No dancing at the party of course because of the COVID restrictions, put if you put this on at home and decide to have a boogie, well that would be fine by us. Please enjoy.

Episode 13: China
China's club scene, like much of the rest of the country, is on the rise. Very little music in this show is beyond 25 years old, which is when the internet allowed for more widespread pirating and smuggling of dance music from beyond the Great Firewall. Pioneers like B6, Tzu Sing, club Shelter have ushered in a new era of at times fast, at times delicate, but always fascinating electronic music. A number of tracks on this playlist reflect not just the state of Chinese music but the state of the World at the time, cities in China were just leaving...

Episode 15: Cuba
Compared to its size, Cuba has played a disproportionate role in influencing music around the world, with its unique blend of cultures and rhythms as a result of its colonial and then revolutionary history. The recognition of the influence of african music on Cuban music was long whitewashed by scholars and musicologists. Either wrongly attributed to Spanish influence, itself heavily influenced by African culture since the 15th century, or dismissed by attesting that the European influence was needed to make black music paletable and successful. Despite this, afro-cuban music grew into an unstoppable global force, which still exerts it’s in...
