Dinamai Al-Furqan yang artinya pembeda, diambil dari kata al-Furqan yang terdapat pada ayat pertama surah ini. Yang dimaksud dengan Al-Furqan dalam ayat ini ialah Al-Quran (lihat nama lain Al-Qur'an). Al-Quran dinamakan Al-Furqan karena dia membedakan antara yang haq dengan yang batil.
