In this podcast David Ledesma discusses with Professor Jonathan Stern 'Carbon-neutral' LNG. Jonathan Stern argues that 'Carbon-neutral' LNG has become progressively limited to a relatively small number of trades in Asia and cannot be considered a credible or relevant environmental standard. Cargos should be 'greenhouse gas verified' and should set out the methodologies used to measure, report, and verify emissions. These methodologies should distinguish between assumptions and models for estimating emissions, and empirical measurement of emissions. Measurement and reporting should be subject to verification by technically qualified companies which should have the capability to replicate a sample of emissions...

What It Takes - The Battle to Define Carbon-Neutral and GHG-Neutral LNG
There’s been a slew of high-profile shipments of “carbon-neutral LNG” the past few months, typically involving the use of carbon credits to offset, ton-for-ton, the carbon dioxide equivalent of greenhouse gases released during the production, piping, and liquefaction of natural gas, the shipping of LNG, and often the regasification and ultimate consumption of the gas too. The problem is, there is no widely agreed-to definition for carbon neutral, nor is there a consensus on how to quantify and validate the GHG “footprint” of a specific LNG cargo. Now, an international group representing the world’s LNG importers has established a framework...

It's a ball-tingling episode as we get straight to discussing cock-and-ball torture and remembering the day we learned about testicular torsion. If that isn't sexy enough for you, Zea shares her first encounter with a bikini barista, and we wonder how other jobs can be sexified. Then it's on to the last of the Nicolas Cage films, 2019's Color Out of Space, where Daddy Cage meets Lovecraftian cosmic horror in a delightfully dark story. GHG Removal and the Worldviews That Consider It
Movements for climate and ecological survival have largely eschewed talk of taking CO2 out of the sky. For good reason. We don't know if it will work and it shifts the focus away from ceasing the damage. However, if we have already crossed climate tipping points, it's probably a good idea to begin looking at our options: the uncertain, the dubious, and the overtly evil. Here, we examine emerging GHG removal potentials, the underlying worldviews that allow and prohibit different sectors of society from discussing them, and the value systems evident in how ecological issues are framed.

This week we introduce the need for new plan for reducing global GHG emissions, since the current one, that envisions a fast switch from fossil fuels to renewables is proving to be unrealistic. Instead, we propose the need for a more realistic plan that reduces GHG emissions on more dimensions, including a transition to progressively...
