Podcast: Secrets of Paris with Heather Stimmler
I recently sat down with my friend Heather Stimmler, of Secrets of Paris, to talk about tourism in Paris for my podcast. Often called “the most visited city in the world,” Paris has an admirable reputation, but the word “tourist” comes with negative connotations. Personally, I love to “play tourist” and spend a day hitting museums, sightseeing, or getting to know a new neighborhood.Whether you’re a first-time tourist, a resident, a multiple-time visitor, or just interested in Paris, you’ll learn something from Heather and I was happy to have a chat with her about tourism—and othe...

Paris Undressed
With Heather Stimmler on mistresses, secret gardens, and the written word
Heather has been the unofficial ambassador of secrets of the City of Light since the late 1990s when she decided to make Paris her home. American born travel journalist, author, entrepreneur, Heather was one of the first anglophone writers to go from writing on paper to writing online and in 1999 she founded Secrets of Paris, the ultimate insider’s resource for information. Her book, Naughty Paris: A Lady’s Guide to the Sexy City published in 2008 offered women another way to explore and experience Paris and was such a success that it sold out immediately and was reprinted in 2015. www.se...

Shopping on rue Mouffetard
In this special new year's episode, I chat with my friend Heather Stimmler, founder of Secrets of Paris. Heather's favourite market street is the rue Mouffetard, a street which goes back to Roman times. This is the neighbourhood described in the first pages of Ernest Hemingway's classic A Moveable Feast--this is where he bought clementines and chestnuts to eat while he wrote. Heather and I talk about bread, beer, and butchers, walking from the Place Conte-Escarpe down the street to SAINT-MEDARD church. As always, the accordion music is played by the wonderful David Symons.
