The Legacy of Howard Zinn's Radical History
When Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States came out in 1980, it literally rocked the boat. Instead of starting where most histories of the Americas start — on the deck of Columbus’s ship as it approached land — Howard Zinn flipped the script, focusing instead on what the people standing on the shore would have seen. In this episode, we look at the ripple effects of Zinn’s radical take on history. MM#399--Getting American History Right: Why Howard Zinn's People's History Gets It Wrong
FAN MAIL--We would love YOUR feedback--Send us a Text MessageThe battle for America's historical narrative has never been more consequential. When Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States" claims that "Lincoln initiated hostilities by trying to repossess the federal base at Fort Sumter," it fundamentally misrepresents the spark that ignited the Civil War. This seemingly small distortion reveals a much larger problem with how many Americans are learning their own history. As we fight for historical literacy, remember that understanding our true past – with all its triumphs and failures – is esse...

The Historian Teaching Your Kids to Hate America: The Truth About Howard Zinn | Dr. Mary Grabar (Repost)
In honor of Columbus Day, we're reposting a Hold These Truths classic from 2020 with historian Dr. Mary Grabar: You may have never heard of him, but no historian has had a greater influence on modern America than Howard Zinn. His most popular work, A Peoples History of the United States, was brought into the cultural mainstream with Matt Damon's Oscar winning 1997 film Good Will Hunting. The book is a precursor to the 1619 Project - tracing the roots of America's sins and inequities to Christopher Columbus' 1492 voyage and the rise of capitalism. So for Columbus Day...

Welcome to Homeroom, class! Once upon a not so distant time ago, we celebrated "Columbus Day" on the second Monday of each October. Zinn was a 60s leftist and one-time communist who wrote a "people's history" of the United States, which has become way too influential, especially in the educational system. This anti-American propaganda has been used to poison young minds against the U.S.A. One big problem with Zinn's focus on American sins is that there's no sense of proportion. PODCAST: Chapter 2 Review of Howard Zinn’s A People’s History Of The United States
https://archive.org/download/zinn-ch-2/Zinn%20Ch%202.mp3 My co-host Cat and I review chapter two of Howard Zinn’s book “A People’s History Of The United States.” I’m always urging people to learn ACTUAL history, not the white supremacist, anti-labor propaganda we were indoctrinated with in school. We know you’re busy, some people are working multiple jobs to make ends meet, so we’re creating 20-30 minute episodes with highlights from each chapter to provide a way to get acquainted with the material. The Historian Teaching Your Kids to Hate America: The Truth About Howard Zinn, with Dr. Mary Grabar
You may have never heard of him, but no historian has had a greater influence on modern America than Howard Zinn. So for Columbus Day Weekend we invited Dr. Mary Grabar, a historian and author of "Debunking Howard Zinn: Exposing the Fake History That Turned...

‘ON THE GROUND’ SHOW FOR SEPTEMBER 25, 2020: Denver BLM Activists Freed…Protesters Targeted by State Repression…Media and Culture Highlight: Julian Assange, Trump Attacks on Howard Zinn and Headlines
The failure to indict Louisville police officers in the murder of Breonna Taylor and the arrests, instead, of those protesting police killings, proves once again that there are two systems of justice in the U.S.: One for cops and one for everyone else. We speak to Mara Verheyden-Hilliard. And whether the target is historian Howard Zinn, the New York Times 1619 Project, or Julian Assange, the Trump administration and corporate media are working hard for the right to keep the public miseducated and misinformed. We speak to journalist and author Jon Jeter. Plus headlines: With more than 200,000...

In this episode we talk about the most ridiculous police action taken in recent memory for sure, we have a discussion centered around two newcomers to chat (one a self-confessed millennial conservative and another a "left-leaning" Muslim Wahabbist) and their beliefs and we watch a couple of short films: one covering the 2000 Seattle WTO protests/riots and another dissecting a sampling of American history featuring noted historian Howard Zinn. Enjoy!

Welcome to Howard Zinn's America (feat. Mary Grabar)
Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States has sold more than 3 million copies. It is pushed by Hollywood celebrities, defended by university professors who know better, and assigned in high school and college classrooms to teach students that American history is nothing more than a litany of oppression, slavery, and exploitation. Zinn's history is popular, but it is also massively wrong. Scholar Mary Grabar reveals Zinn's bag of dishonest rhetorical tricks: his slavish reliance on partisan history, explicit rejection of historical balance, and selective quotation of sources to make th...

Send us a textIf you’re more than 50 years old, you have likely noticed a major shift in perspective on American history. Christopher Columbus was once the great discoverer of America but now is considered a genocidal tyrant (thus the push to change Columbus Day to Indigenous People’s Day). The American founders were once the esteemed framers of the greatest nation in history but now are dismissed as white, wealthy slave-holders.Even America’s war-time sacrifices to stop Nazism and Communism are viewed as imperialistic and profit-motivated.Where did this “America is evil” perspective come from? Matt Damon reads Howard Zinn
Since its original landmark publication in 1980, Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States has been chronicling American history from the bottom up, throwing out the official version of history taught in schools–with its emphasis on great men in high places–to focus on the street, the home, and the workplace. In this recording you’ll hear from Zinn reading from his introduction to the book, and you’ll hear Matt Damon, an American actor and Academy Award-winning screenwriter for his work on Good Will Hunting, read passages that span the Summer of 1966, the 1967 Urban Riots in Newark an...
