2022年年底，《阿凡达2》有惊无险地登陆中国电影市场，1.3亿元的首日票房，创下了全年进口片的纪录。但也有评论认为，这部高知名度+高成本投入的续作表现不及预期。仅靠华丽的画面和视觉冲击，好莱坞也许很难像2009年的《阿凡达》那样，轻易吸引大量中国观众。
当年的《阿凡达》不仅让詹姆斯·卡梅隆曝得大名，也带火了当时在中国还很稀罕的IMAX技术。以足够大的银幕为核心，更全面的视听体验既满足了创作者的需求、也震撼了观众的心。
对于曾眼见市场快速增长、院线激进扩张的中国电影市场来说，像IMAX这样的技术型提升，是一个绝佳的投资方向。但在受疫情影响的过去三年中，从制作方、院线方，再到IMAX这样的技术服务商，也都或多或少地受到了业绩冲击。
